WOME EN SE EEIN NG RED D ON VIOLENCE Friday 14 February sees the women of the world gather in streets, on beaches, in parks… dressed in red for V Day – an international day asking people to say NO to violence against women and children. Organisers are asking women to bring a placard relating to justice for women and if possible to learn the dance for the flashmob – www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQpttPZqOIw. If you can’t do that, come anyway, and do wear red! Dance rehearsals are also happening each Monday and Wednesday at Lisa Burnie’s Zumba class. 7.30am!

BYRON ON FILM Famous for its surfing and laidback, bohemian lifestyle, Byron Bay’s buzz during the Byron Bay International Film Festival is infectious. From a jazz fusion that tap dances its way through the pulsating streets of India to a power play sizzles between Italian actors conquering each other in love. This summer the hottest beachside action will be happening inside the cinema when the 8th Byron Bay International Film Festival presents a more inspiring dose of screen culture from 28 February to 9 March 2014.

HUGHESY IN THE BAY You’ve got to love the laidback laconic humour of Dave Hughes. A dad of three now, the boy next door who became the boy on NOVA 100 breakfast radio has said goodbye to his pre-dawn starts and walked back into the spotlight as a standup. Catch his pre-comedyfest show at the Byron Theatre on Thursday 6 Feb. 7pm, $30.
