Mekoryuk Church Calls New Pastor

Shaktoolik To Host 2024 Conference

The Mekoryuk Covenant Church voted unanimously in a congregational meeting on June 4, to call Lauren Thurston to serve as their pastor. Lauren and her husband Devin, along with their dogs Suka and Scout will be moving to Mekoryuk in July and Lauren will begin serving there as pastor beginning August 6.

Lauren currently serves as the Junior High Ministry Director at Freemont Presbyterian Church in Sacramento. CA . She is a graduate of Whitworth College in Spokane, WA, in 2017 and is scheduled to complete her Master’s of Divinity degree from North Park University in December.

Lauren served as a summer intern with Community Covenant Church in Eagle River during the summer of 2017. During that time, she served at Covenant Bible Camp in Unalakleet where she was introduced to Devin who was a teacher in Mekoryuk. They married in 2020. Devin will return as a teacher to Mekoryuk for the 2023-24 school year.

“I am so delighted that Lauren has been called to serve as pastor. She cares deeply that people will come to know Jesus,” said Curtis Ivanoff. “The church is grateful and the community is excited that both her and her husband Devin will be serving in Mekoryuk. We are blessed to have her on the Alaska ministry team.”
