THE UNOFFICIAL MAYOR OF EDGECLIFF
If you regularly go to post office at Edgecliff Centre, you have probably met Will. I call him the unofficial Mayor of Edgecliff. Why would I call him that? Well, if you see him in action, you will know why.
If you don’t already know him, you would probably just think he’s just a regular run-ofthe-mill post office employee.

How many of you go to the post office and get greeted by your name? Well for the local residents in Edgecliff, Will knows almost everyone by name. Not only that, he probably knows almost all your family members by name as well. When I got to the counter I mentioned that my finger was bleeeding and asked if they had any band aids. The employee said they didn’t have any as they had run out.
Leaving the post office, I used a tissue to stop the bleeding. Out the corner of my eye, Will was running towards me. Will said “here you go, I just bought you a band aid”.
Will even helped me put the band aid on, I didn’t even realise, he had overheard my request at the post office counter. Who does that? Who goes out of their way especially whilst they are working to help a stranger? That was the start of my journey discovering an uncut diamond.
You are probably thinking, what’s so special about that and him? Will is special to me and almost everyone I know that goes into Edgecliff post office. It doesn’t matter to Will if you are young, old, rich or poor, he will still treat you with respect and will go above and beyond for you. He will even go the extra mile for a perfect stranger. Let me share my first encounter with Will. A truly kind-hearted man, despite all the difficulties and circumstances he faced in the earlier years in life. He doesn’t complain about the past, but embraces all of his blessings with a thankful heart.
He is today a better man, a loving spouse and a doting father and more importantly a man God.
The moral of the story? Actions speak louder than words …. you never know how a small random act of kindness, can lead you to a lifelong friendship.
I had moved back into the Edgecliff area about seven years ago. A few things had changed whilst I was away but the post office was still there. Whilst lining up waiting to be served, I noticed my finger was bleeding, probably from a paper cut from a parcel I had taken out of my PO box earlier.
