Thomas Gratzer, MD, is a board-certified psychiatrist with more than three decades of experience in general and forensic psychiatry. Throughout his career in Minnesota’s Twin Cities region, he has worked with respected healthcare institutions, including United Hospital, Regions Hospital, Fairview University Medical Center, and Psych Recovery. His work focuses on patient treatment, psychiatric evaluations, and forensic assessments that support both healthcare providers and legal professionals. During his career, Dr. Thomas Gratzer held several influential positions in forensic psychiatry and correctional mental health care. He served as Senior Forensic Psychiatrist at the Minnesota Security Hospital and later became a consulting psychiatrist for the Minnesota Department of Corrections. In that role, he provided psychiatric care for incarcerated youth while helping address mental health challenges within correctional settings and rehabilitation programs. Dr. Gratzer has also dedicated many years to academic teaching and professional mentorship. As an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota Medical School, he educated psychiatry residents, medical students, and law students for nearly two decades. His teaching experience included lectures at institutions across the United States and Canada, where he shared knowledge of forensic psychiatry, psychiatric treatment, and mental health law. Research and professional leadership have remained important aspects of Dr. Thomas Gratzer’s career. He has published peer-reviewed papers examining subjects such as compulsive sexual behavior, impulse control disorders, and forensic psychiatric treatment methods. His work earned several research awards and recognition from professional organizations, including the American Psychiatric Association and the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law, where he contributed to specialized committees.
