David Jang

Dr. David Jang is the founder of Olivet University and has given his life to serving Christ through education, mission work, and leadership. From his earliest efforts, he carried the Gospel to difficult places, often on foot, and later through digital media, bringing the message of Jesus Christ to regions where access was limited. His vision for Olivet University has always been to create a place where disciples are trained and leaders are prepared to take part in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19). David Jang was born in 1949 and pursued his studies with focus and dedication. He earned both a Bachelor of Theology and a Master of Divinity from Hanshin University. He went on to complete a Master of Arts in Communications at Yonsei University and later received a Ph.D. in Public Administration of Social Welfare from Dankook University. During his education, he was influenced by an American missionary recognized for his global mission work and by a Korean church historian and missionary leader who also helped establish Olivet University Korea. In 2004, he founded Olivet University in a basement in San Francisco. He chose the city because of its diversity, which became an essential part of the school’s identity. What began as a theological college expanded into schools of music, journalism, art and design, technology, and later added business and language education. In 2005, the school relocated to the former UC Berkeley Downtown Extension Campus, and by 2009, it had achieved accreditation from the Association for Biblical Higher Education. David later stepped into the role of International President, broadening the university’s reach and serving on the North American Council of the World Evangelical Alliance. His contributions also include the founding of Christian media organizations. He established Christian Today, Christian Daily Korea, and Christianity Daily International, and was a founding member of The Christian Post.
