Effective management of the Gdańsk bus fleet thanks to the MiX 4000 system

At the end of May, we finished the last stage of assembly of MiX Telematics 4000 fleet management systems with Ribas eco driving trainer. Our service centre assembled 48 systems on Mercedes-Benz Citaro buses, provided by EvoBus Polska. These buses are used by Gdańskie Autobusy i Tramwaje company.

The whole project was spread out over time. The installation took place at the Grupa WRÓBEL headquarters in Gdańsk - an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer. Our solution has been applied in 29 Citaro C2 S3 buses - 12m long, 13 Citaro C2 S3 G buses - 18m long and six Mercedes Citaro C2 S3 buses with a length of 10m.

We are pleased that EvoBus company has chosen our system from among many other telematics solutions. This was certainly influenced by several important aspects, such as device capabilities and functions, benefits of using it, or our long-time experience in this sector.

MiX 4000 is a thoroughly modern solution that is in line with recent trends on the market. It enables fleet management and the in-depth assessment of driver's work and his driving style. Owing to this, the system reduces the fuel consumption and lowers the accident rate. On device motherboard there is a GSM modem, GPS receiver, accelerometer (acceleration sensor), Bluetooth low energy,

I/O, two CAN outputs, two RS232 ports, four steering outputs and 434/915 MHZ short range transceiver. Integration of a short range RF connection together with GSM transmission allows for communication via two alternative channels (at different frequencies).

The device can alternatively use GSM GPRS (2G) or HSPA (3G) modems; GSM antenna is integrated (external antennas are not required). The device software can be changed remotely via the GSM network. In case of loss of the GSM connection (no coverage, network failure, etc.) MiX 4000 can store up to 20 000 messages.

The device is fully compatible with MiX event engine and enables registration of all events, also those created for older types of devices. For example, it is possible to register the following events:

- over-speeding

- heavy breaking

- extensive acceleration

- vehicle collision

- low-battery voltage, etc.

MiX 4000 can identify the driver both by means of a special key (blue driver key), like with currently used keys in older systems, as well as it is possible to identify the driver by reading the driver card from the digital tachograph or optionally by connecting to ticket machines. The device also has an integrated module that allows remote reading of the driver card or tachograph mass memory. MiX 4000 has been equipped with two analogue inputs providing 12 bits of accuracy, and two frequency inputs with the option of recording frequencies above 20 KHz.

Communication ports of MiX 4000 enable direct connection of additional devices such as:

- Ribas - eco driving trainer,

- Mix Vison - a camera system allowing for simultaneous observation of the driver and the view in front of the vehicle,

- Alcolock - an interlock preventing people from starting a vehicle after drinking alcohol,

- CPC - tire pressure and temperature monitoring system

The additional device connected with MiX 4000 in case of Mercedes-Benz buses is Ribas, called a virtual trainer in driver's cab, that encourages the driver to improve his driving style. The device affects the driver's driving style because it informs him each time about exceeding the vehicle speed thresholds set by the employer, engine revs, every heavy breaking and acceleration, as well as leaving the vehicle idling too long.

We would like to say thank you to EvoBus company for choosing our solution and fruitful cooperation during the implementation of the project, and we wish Gdańskie Autobusy i Tramwaje a safe driving with the MiX 4000 system.
