What you need to know whenever you encounter a Lithium-ion battery in EVs: • The battery packs on these vehicles are comprised of modules packed full of individual battery cells. For perspective, a typical Tesla has the equivalent of 10,000 cell phone batteries under the floor. That’s a lot of voltage! • These battery cells contain hazardous chemicals. Fire fighters approach a damaged vehicle wearing full PPE and self-contained breathing apparatus. If you suspect a vehicle’s energy pack is damaged, you are advised to avoid contact (including smoke or fumes) unless you are protected.
