FROM THE EDITOR I would like to express my deepest condolences to those affected by the catastrophic damage that hurricane Dorian has wreaked mainly over the Bahamas, and also over parts of Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas. Please find out in your community about ways to assist the storm-ravaged Bahamas, like donating food, clothes or supplies. We could also take this time to learn about the effect that climate change has over hurricanes. Just recently, I read an article about how global warming has increased water temperatures, creating a higher potential for tropical cyclones to develop. Slowmoving storms like Florence, Harvey and Dorian are becoming more common as the earth gets hotter. Hurricanes now tend to move more slowly over both land and water, which is awful news for any community in their path. There are many ways you can personally help in the fight against global warming. Calling your Senators and Representative is the first step in building a relationship with your congressional offices and creating the political will needed to solve this environmental disaster. DE LA EDITORA Quisiera expresar mis más profundas condolencias a los afectados por el daño catastrófico que el huracán Dorian ha causado principalmente en las Bahamas, y también en partes de Florida, Georgia y las Carolinas. Por favor averigüen en su comunidad acerca de formas de colaborar con las Bahamas, como por ejemplo donando ropa y alimentos. También podríamos aprovechar este tiempo para aprender sobre el efecto que tiene el cambio climático sobre los huracanes. Recientemente, leí un artículo sobre cómo el calentamiento global ha aumentado las temperaturas del agua, creando un mayor potencial para el desarrollo de ciclones tropicales. Las tormentas lentas como Florence, Harvey y Dorian se están volviendo más comunes a medida que la tierra se calienta. Los huracanes ahora tienden a moverse más lentamente sobre la tierra y el agua, lo cual es una noticia terrible para cualquier comunidad en su camino. Hay muchas maneras de ayudar personalmente en la lucha contra el calentamiento global.
