Miss Vicki Etherington OAM (NSW), Mr Charlie Giles (ACT) and Miss Laura Schimke (QLD) officiated across the Obedience, Rally and Tricks disciplines. Junior Showmanship competitors were assessed by Mr James Murray (NSW). Their professionalism, expertise and dedication contributed significantly to the success of the event and were greatly appreciated by exhibitors. A particularly special moment during the weekend was the presentation of the GSDCA Outstanding Canine Services Award to Police Dog Blade of the NSW Police Force. Working alongside Senior Constable Chris Hayward, PD Blade was recognised for his exceptional service, professionalism and contribution to public safety. During his operational career, Blade has been involved in numerous successful arrests, the location of missing persons and Urban Search and Rescue deployments, exemplifying the courage, intelligence and versatility of the German Shepherd Dog. The National was further honoured by the attendance of the German Shepherd Dog Council of Australia’s Patron, The Honourable Dawn Fraser AC MBE, whose ongoing support of the breed and the National event is deeply valued by the German Shepherd community. The weekend also provided an opportunity to recognise two outstanding individuals whose contributions to dogs and the canine industry have spanned decades. Dr Karen Hedberg BVSc and Dr Robert Zammit BVSc were acknowledged for their extraordinary service, leadership and commitment to the welfare and advancement of dogs throughout Australia. Their influence has been felt across generations of breeders, exhibitors, veterinarians and dog owners, making their recognition richly deserved. DOGS NSW ۔September 2026 27
