BLUES BED & BREAKFAST 119 Pinckney St | Chester

A 1904-built home in Chester, South Carolina, weaves blues, jazz and gospel into a unique visitor stay. The Inn Upon Moon River Plantation Blues Bed & Breakfast is more than lodging. It’s an unforgettable destination that is good for the mind, body and soul.

Innkeepers David and Elizabeth Claytor showcase their passion for the blues throughout the historic house, with art and collectibles lining the 10-foot walls. “Acquiring the artwork at the Inn was not an overnight task,” Elizabeth says. “We have always appreciated art and the blues, and over the years, we realized that we had a collection.”

Elizabeth grew up in Louisiana, where blues and gospel music were practically woven into her DNA. Dave was introduced to the blues by his paternal grandfather while growing up in upstate New York. He cherishes the memories of listening to the sounds of old blues records with his grandpa — a collection he now treasures. His mother’s side of the family also has deep roots in the blues, as his cousin is the iconic Diana Ross.

The couple’s passion for the blues came together when they met in Tallahassee, Florida, where they revived an abandoned historic juke joint and created it into an internationally acclaimed authentic blues tourist attraction known as “Dave’s CC Club.”

The couple now spends time greeting and hosting guests in their charming bed and breakfast. The inn they created is a unique place where heartfelt music, Southern hospitality and memorable moments intertwine. “We especially love having breakfast with our guests and entertaining them with stories and live music,” Elizabeth adds.
