Als Anziehungspunkt für Familien, Sportler und internationale Wettbewerbe spielt das Grandview Heights Aquatic Centre (GHAC) eine lebendige Rolle in der schnell wachsenden kanadischen Stadt Surrey. Die Architekten entwickelten ein Konzept, das Innen- und Außenräume über maximale Glasflächen optisch verbindet. Mit ihrem 50 m langen Wettkampfbecken und einem Kunstsprungturm erfüllt die Anlage alle Standards, um regionale, nationale und internationale Sportveranstaltungen durchzuführen, umfasst aber auch Freizeit becken, Warmbecken, Wasserrutsche, Sauna und Dampfbad, sowie ein Fitnesszentrum im Obergeschoss. Ein außergewöhnliches Hängedach aus Holz überspannt die Schwimmhalle. Es sorgt für eine warme Ausstrahlung im Inneren und erreicht die erforderlichen lichten Höhen mit einer insgesamt sehr flachen Struktur. Das maßvolle Gebäudevolumen ermöglichte es, die Kosten für die Gebäudehülle und die Klimatisierung zu begrenzen und Nutzerkomfort mit Energieeffizienz zu verbinden. GA
The Grandview Heights Aquatic Centre (GHAC) has a vital role as a magnet for families, water sports enthusiasts and international competitions in the rapidly growing city of Surrey, Canada. The architects developed a concept that maximises the area of glazed surfaces to visually connect internal and external spaces. With its 50-m-long competition pool and diving platform, the facility complies with all the standards required to host regional, national and international sporting events. In addition, it also offers leisure pools, heated pools, water slides, saunas and steam baths, as well as a fitness centre on the upper floor. An extraordinary suspended roof in timber spans the swimming pool. It creates a feeling of warmth and achieves the required headroom with a very shallow structure. The modest building volume keeps the costs of the building envelope and air-conditioning within limits and combines user comfort with energy efficiency.
