A Fiery Beauty Set Against the Desert Landscape
CAYAMBE BY DENTON HOUSE DESIGN

Nestled in the heart of the natural desert landscape of Las Vegas, Nevada, is Denton House Design’s latest residential project, Cayambe. The inspiration behind the project was the client’s home country of Ecuador and its renowned volcanic complex, Nevado Cayambe. With this in mind, Denton House Design Studio set upon creating a property that would incorporate tailored elegance, have a commanding presence, yet be respectful to its natural surrounds and would surpass the client’s desires. The project was to act as a true oasis in the desert.
The client requested that the design be a balance of clean lines, sleek finishes, have an air of elegance and comfort, and open spaces that could be enjoyed privately or while hosting guests. In addition, the client wanted to incorporate many items from their personal collection of which had its own personality, a challenge which Denton House Design overcame with respect to form and budget, elevating each piece to coincide with the new aesthetic.
Cayambe’s architecture imitates the great expanse and dominance of its namesake’s volcanic range, while the interior architecture and design complements the natural tones found in the surrounding landscape. The property’s architecture imitates the great expanse and dominance of the volcanic range, while the interior architecture and design compliments the natural tones found in the surrounding landscape. The juxtaposition of materials and varying textures provides moments of high-contrast and drama as if paying homage to the uniquely snow-capped volcano.
Speaking about how the Cayambe project integrates into the wider environment, Rebecca Buchan, Principal at Denton House Design Studio said “Cayambe’s rectilinear forms, respectful materials and canopies extend through the sky, stretching one’s view beyond the elongated mountain range.” The clean lines of the property’s exterior architecture are mirrored throughout the property’s interior. Cayambe is striking in both external and internal appearance.
A large portion of Cayambe’s exterior consists of operable glazing, floorto-ceiling windows to feature the unparalleled desert views of Red Rock Canyon during the day, and the gleam of Las Vegas’s infamous Strip in the evening. Upon entering Cayambe, one is enveloped in opulent comfort and surrounded by supple, yet refined furnishings which add a layer of sophistication and warmth. The property’s connection to the outdoors was of great importance throughout the project, so Denton House Design Studio ensured this was maintained throughout the residence, with furniture spilling through to the outdoors, providing a crisp connection between the interior and exterior environments.
The property is fitted with an inspiring library, where one can relax and retire to read their favourite book in a comfortable and serene environment. Describing the library, Rebecca said “The library featured at the front of the property creates a museum-like presence as the glazing captures each studious moment within.”
In addition, Denton House Design Studio have provided the client with a seamless kitchen experience, where there is space for the client to host a number of guests. The kitchen’s decor emulates the colours used throughout the property’s exterior, further solidifying the interior’s relationship with the exterior. The kitchen features a beautiful marble island with seating, a cosy informal dining space with further seating options and clever storage solutions which blend seamlessly with the kitchen’s decor, leaving a clean and streamlined appearance throughout the space.
Following this is the intimate formal dining area, which features a beautiful glass in-built fireplace and a striking lighting feature which sits overhead of the table. The sculptural lighting piece resembles an interlocking gold chain and is certainly an eye-catching piece. The dining table can seat up to twelve guests and is partly sectioned off from other areas to ensure privacy. A further impressive feature is the extensive wine exhibition to the right of the dining space. In addition, behind the glass wall of wine bottles is a tasting room, where guests can sample a number of wines to pair with dinner or as a digestif.
Moreover, the Cayambe property also features five unique bedrooms, a home theatre, various games rooms and elongated terraces. The residence provides multiple options which allow for guests to gather or for one to spend time alone relaxing, the options are endless. Most notable is the property’s impressive marble bathroom which features a freestanding tub. Speaking about the design of the bathtub, Rebecca commented “We worked with a domestic vendor to create a custom marble tub which was carved from a single block of stone. The artistry and engineering collaboration was inspiring.”
The Cayambe project has seen Denton House Design Studio shortlisted for two categories at The International Design & Architecture Awards 2020, Luxury Residence - Global and Luxury Residence – Americas. Rebecca highlights that the “Awards are important for recognising the immense effort put forth by design teams to create exceptional design solutions while allowing our industry to come together and celebrate a collective achievement for design as a whole.”
The property is striking in its appearance, with its grand use of stone, metal and glass, which in some cases, can appear lifeless if handled carelessly. Denton House Design Studio carefully considered each material and its relationship to the next, which allowed for a feeling of warmth and connectivity. It is the connection between the interior and exterior which Denton House Design Studio cite as their favourite aspect of the property, describing it as “The interaction which occurs between the interior and exterior is strong. The strength is amplified within the reflection of the facade on the still water of the infinity pool. The interior and exterior materials wrap the structure to create a harmonious composition.” Denton House Design Studio ensured that this seamless transition would allow furniture and the homeowners to mingle indoors and out without restriction.
Cayambe is an enviable project which is a true oasis in the desert. Denton House Design Studio ensured that the client’s needs were met and that the project was individual to them, which was achieved by taking inspiration from the client’s home country of Ecuador and its volcanic plains. Cayambe is a feast of clean lines, sleek finishes and incorporates opulent elegance, merged with comfort and a homely feel. The acclaimed interior design firm have produced an incredible and unique design that the client can enjoy, host gatherings, and set up home in for many years to come.
