Theory Tips & Tricks...Substituting Chords. For Major Chords: To spice up any MAJOR chord, you can substitute a TWO chord. For example, if the chord progression is a C to an F chord, then play a C2 to an F2. For Minor Chords: To spice up any MINOR chord, you can substitute a MINOR 11TH chord. For example, if the chord progression includes a Dm, then play a Dm11 in it's place.
