W. Dane Carey is a Partner at Carey & Jaskowski, PLLC, a Grayling, Michigan-based law firm, where he focuses on complex property disputes, real estate litigation, riparian rights and water law, corporate and commercial matters, land use and zoning, municipal law, and general civil litigation. A northern Michigan native, Dane represents clients throughout Michigan in both state and federal courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court. In addition to his legal practice, he serves as Legal Counsel, Deputy Finance Director, and Board Member for The Brook Retirement Communities, where he provides strategic leadership in corporate governance, regulatory compliance, financial planning, risk management, and organizational growth. His unique combination of legal, financial, and governance expertise allows him to help organizations navigate complex challenges while building long-term value. Dane earned his J.D., magna cum laude, and M.B.A. with honors from Michigan State University in 2015, following a B.A. in Economics, cum laude, from Kalamazoo College, where he was an All-American soccer player and member of the men's basketball team. His scholarly work has been cited in a U.S. Supreme Court brief and contributed to the constitutional arguments ultimately adopted in the landmark *Murphy v. NCAA* decision. A recognized thought leader, Dane has authored numerous publications on business law, municipal law, and waterfront property rights, and has lectured on riparian law and other legal topics across Michigan. He has also been named a Michigan Super Lawyers "Rising Star" for multiple consecutive years, an honor awarded to only 2.5% of attorneys in the state annually.
