CROSBY SCHOLARS SCHOLARSHIP PATHWAYS ESSAY BASED Do you enjoy telling stories and expressing yourself through writing? While many of our scholarships require an essay, these specific essay based scholarships do not require a certain GPA, academic major, school enrollment, or participation in a particular Crosby Scholars Program!

COMMUNITY SERVICE BASED Have you spent a lot of your time volunteering in and serving your community? We have several scholarships for students who have served a certain number of volunteer hours, who have spearheaded a service activity and/or recruited others, and more!

ACADEMIC BASED These scholarships have a GPA requirement that you must meet to be eligible to apply. These GPA requirements range from a 2.0 to 3.5 cumulative weighted GPA. Most of these scholarships also require an essay!

SCHOOL BASED These scholarships require your enrollment at either UNC-Chapel Hill, Winston-Salem State University, North Carolina A&T State University, Wingate University, Wake Forest University, or a Historically Black College or University (HBCU)!

FIRST-GENERATION COLLEGE STUDENTS You are considered a First-Generation College Student if neither of your parents have a four-year Bachelor’s Degree from a college or university. If this sounds like you, you can apply for a scholarship just for FirstGeneration College Students!

PROGRAM BASED Are you an active member of the AAMPED Program or have you attended a week of the Right Decisions/Right Now Camp? Our program based scholarships require participation in a specific Crosby Scholars Program!


ESSAY BASED Friends of Bernardine Rea Scholarship | Up to five $500 Scholarships | Non-renewable To be eligible, student must: Enroll in a two- or four-year college or university Actively participate in service to others Essay Topic | Describe a time when someone unexpectedly treated you with kindness and compassion and how that influenced future behavior The Goodwill Willpower Scholarship & Art Gibel Scholarship | One $1,500 Scholarship | One $1,000 Scholarship | Non- renewable To be eligible, student must: Enroll in a two- or four-year college or university Essay Topic | Describe how willpower and determination have helped you overcome challenges you have encountered in your life. Describe how you overcame obstacles and found success. The Kay Landry Scholarship Award |$1,000 Scholarship | Non-renewable To be eligible, student must: Plan to enroll in a two- or four-year college or university Demonstrate a strong commitment to serving others Essay Topic | Describe an impactful relationship, including important life lessons you have gained as a result of this relationship, and its impact on your future. Joyce Kohfeldt Determination Award | $1,000 scholarship | Non-renewable To be eligible, student must: Enroll in a two- or four- year college or university Actively participate in community service and extracurricular activities Essay Topic | Describe how determination has served you well throughout your life, and how will it continue to serve you as you embark upon your college journey. Mariam Niang Memorial Scholarship | $1,000 Scholarship | Non-renewable To be eligible, student must: Enroll in a two- or four-year college or university Demonstrate an active commitment to service or leadership Essay Topic | Choice of three essay prompts all pertaining to mental health. Please see application for essay prompts. Mommie J Scholarship | $1,500 scholarship | Non-renewable To be eligible, student must: Enroll in a two- or four-year college or university Actively participate in community service and extracurricular activities Essay Topic | Describe how a special friendship has shaped your life.


COMMUNITY SERVICE BASED Mona W. Lovett Community Volunteer Excellence Award | $1,000 Scholarship | Non-renewable To be eligible, student must: Enroll in a two- or four-year college or university Have provided outstanding service to the community as evidenced by their nomination by a local agency Essay Topic | Explain why you decided to volunteer with the organization that you worked with and how you made a difference through your volunteering. Mona W. Lovett Excellence in Volunteer Leadership Award | $1,000 Scholarship | Non-renewable

To be eligible, student must: Enroll in a two- or four-year college or university Have created, spearheaded, or recruited others to participate in a service activity Essay Topic | Explain what made you decide to volunteer with the organization you worked with. How did you make a difference by volunteering? Mona W. Lovett Outstanding Commitment to Service Award | $1,000 Scholarship | Non-renewable

To be eligible, student must: Enroll in a two- or four-year college or university Have completed a minimum of 50 hours of volunteer service during their junior and/or senior year of high school These 50 hours need to be verified and recorded in your Crosby Scholars Student Portal. Applicants who have not submitted community service forms totaling 50 hours may submit additional forms by the scholarship deadline to meet eligibility criteria. Essay Topic | What sacrifice(s) did you make to devote so many hours to service, and what motivated you to do so in light of the already numerous demands on your time? Mona W. Lovett Service and Relationships Award | $1,000 Scholarship | Non-renewable To be eligible, student must: Enroll in a two- or four-year college or university Have made a significant relationship to volunteer services in grades 9-12 Essay Topic | Describe a significant relationship developed through volunteering, especially one that might not otherwise have been established.

The Carolyn “Mimi” Fox Education Scholarship | $1,000 Scholarship | Non-renewable To be eligible, student must: Enroll in a two- or four-year college or university Cumulative Plan to become a public school teacher Weighted 3.0 GPA Actively participate in extracurricular activities, including community service Essay Topic | Describe a teacher who has had a positive impact on you.

The Don and Rita Martin Education Scholarship | $1,000 Scholarship | Non-renewable To be eligible, student must: Enroll in a two- or four-year college or university Cumulative Plan to become a public school teacher Weighted Actively participate in extracurricular activities, including community service 3.0 GPA Essay Topic | Describe a teacher, or teachers, who have had a significant impact on your life and how they have influenced your desire to pursue a degree in education.

Jessica Hill Davis Memorial Scholarship | $1,200 Scholarship | Non-renewable Cumulative To be eligible, student must: Unweighted Enroll in a two-or four-year college or university in North Carolina 3.0 GPA Preference will be given to recipients of the Crosby Scholars Executive Director’s Award, meaning they have completed the Crosby Scholars Program and all requirements every year since 6th grade without interruption or dismissal Essay Topic | Explain how you have always felt different from others.

Les & Evelyn Riley Memorial Scholarship | $1,200 Scholarship | Non-renewable To be eligible, student must: Enroll in a two- or four-year college or university Essay Topic | Explain how a significant life experience has influenced you.

Cumulative Weighted 3.5 GPA

Michael Nachman Scholarship | $2,000 Scholarship | Renewable Awarded to the Crosby Scholar senior who holds the highest cumulative weighted GPA at the end of the second semester of their senior year and who successfully completes all requirements of the Crosby Scholars Program Please note that there is no application for this scholarship

Sigma Pi Phi (Gamma Kappa Boule’) Scholarship |Two $1,000 Scholarships | Non-renewable To be eligible, students must: Be an African-American male Cumulative Essay Topic | Write an essay on “My Brother’s Keeper” with the themes provided. Weighted 2.0 GPA See application for themes.


SCHOOL BASED Dean Smith Integrity Award | $1,000 Scholarship | Non-renewable To be eligible, student must: Enroll at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Demonstrate an active commitment to leadership Essay Topic | Describe a time when you challenged the beliefs or attitudes of a group, supported group diversity or stood up for something that was not popular, but was the right thing to do. The Fulton Carolina Medal | $1,500 Scholarship | Renewable To be eligible, student must: Enroll at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Show an active and exemplary commitment to the service of others Essay Topic | Explain why volunteer service has been important to your personal growth and preparation for college. Kristie Y. Wake Forest University/Crosby Scholars Scholarship | $2,000 Scholarships | Renewable To be eligible, students must: Must enroll at Wake Forest University Rank within the top 20% of their graduating class Be from historically underrepresented populations or a First-Generation College Student Demonstrate financial need The Wingate University Scholarship for Crosby Scholars | $2,000 Scholarship | Renewable To be eligible, students must enroll at Wingate University

Right Decisions Right Now Scholarship | Up to three $1,000 Scholarships | Non-renewable To be eligible, students must: Cumulative Enroll in a two- or four-year college or university Weighted Have completed a week of the Right Decisions/Right Now Camp 2.5 GPA Essay Topic | Explain how your decision making throughout high school was guided by principles you learned at the Right Decisions Right Now camp.

OTHER SCHOLARSHIPS Cultural Awareness Scholarship | Two $250 Scholarships | Non-renewable To be eligible, student must: Be a junior or a senior in the Crosby Scholars Program Attend the Piedmont Opera performance offered annually to Crosby Scholars at no cost Please note that there is no application for this scholarship James L. Einstein College Scholarship | $3,000 Scholarship | Renewable To be eligible, student must: Cumulative Enroll in a two- or four-year college or university Unweighted Demonstrate participation in community service 2.5 GPA Demonstrate financial need Preference will be given to Crosby Scholars seniors whose parents are employees of WestRock Company and work in Forsyth County Students must apply through the Winston-Salem Foundation at www.wsfoundation.org Mary Katherine Dixson Scholarship | Number Awarded & Dollar Amount Vary | Potentially Renewable To be eligible, student must: Enroll in a two- or four-year college or university or in another post-secondary program of study Have a disability that requires special services in order to succeed in their post-secondary education endeavors Be able to submit documentation from an appropriate high school or college staff member stating that they receive services under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 through the Exceptional Children’s Program
