Chassidus Is For Is’hafcha
CAN’T STAND SAD FACES
The Chassid, Rabbi Yitzchok Isaac of Homil was not well and his students went to visit him. R’ Isaac said to them, “You know that I hate gloomy faces. Go and drink some mashke and then come back to me.”

WHEN OCCUPIED WITH SOMETHING ELSE, ONE FORGETS SUFFERING
One year, during the winter, the wife of one of the mashgichim in the yeshiva in Lubavitch gave birth to a son. The birth was difficult and in the days following the birth, the woman suffered terribly and groaned a lot so that Dr. Shachor came to check her. After treating her, the doctor said to her husband, “It seems that your wife doesn’t have the head the Rebbe [Rashab] has!” The husband didn’t understand this and the doctor said:
“In the summer, when the Rebbe was in a country home, he became sick and I looked after him and treated him. One day, I was sitting in my room and they called me to go and treat the Rebbe because he was suffering greatly. I went to the Rebbe right away and treated him and afterward they lay the Rebbe down in bed, since after the treatment one needed to rest for an hour without moving. I left the Rebbe’s room so as not to disturb.
“After about half an hour, I entered the Rebbe’s room to see how the Rebbe felt. When I opened the door, I was astonished to see the Rebbe standing and davening the Mincha Shemone Esrei. I know that Mincha is very precious to the Rebbe but there were another two to three hours that Mincha could be davened and there was no reason to hurry. In order not to disturb the
Rebbe, I took a chair and sat at a distance until the Rebbe was done.
“When the Rebbe finished davening, I said to him, ‘Rebbe, I know that Mincha is very precious to you but there is enough time until sunset, and getting out of bed only intensifies the pain.’
“The Rebbe said, ‘What do you think, that one needs to lie there and listen to suffering? When involved with other things, one doesn’t feel suffering.’
“I said, ‘If one can get up with such pain, I have nothing to say...’”
The doctor went on to say that according to medical texts, the woman’s suffering was nothing compared to the Rebbe’s suffering which is why he said, it seems the woman doesn’t have the head the Rebbe has.

ONE NEEDS A HEART TO FEEL
A great scholar went to the market in Lubavitch and although he wasn’t a Chassid and had never learned Chassidus, when he heard about the Tzemach Tzedek, he decided to go and listen to the Chassidus that he said.
After the Rebbe finished, the lamdan said, “Our Sages say that ‘words that emanate from the heart enter the heart,’ and since these words did not enter my heart, that indicates ...” The Rebbe stopped him and said, “They say, ‘enter the heart,’ which means the listener needs to have a heart and it says (Mishlei 6:32), ‘One who commits adultery with a woman is devoid of heart/sense,’ so whose fault is it?”
This entered his heart and he stayed in Lubavitch and became a Chassid.

Deep Fried Ice Cream

3 Hours DURATION
INGREDIENTS
1 quart ice cream (we used the Dairy Vanilla Tuscanini Gelato)
2 cups Glicks Flour
2 cups water
2 cups Gefen Cornflake Crumbs vegetable oil, for frying
PREPARATION

1. Scoop large balls of ice cream onto a baking sheet lined with Gefen Parchment Paper, then freeze until firm, at least an hour.
2. When firm, stir together the flour and water to make a thick batter. Place the cornflake crumbs in another bowl. Working quickly, dunk each ice cream ball in the batter, making sure to coat thoroughly, then immediately coat with cornflake crumbs. Return to the freezer until firm again, at least an hour. (This step can be done well in advance. Once firm, store the coated ice cream balls in a ziptop freezer bag until ready to fry.)
3. When ready to fry, heat the oil in a saucepan or small pot to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Gently lower the coated ice cream into the hot oil and fry until golden, about 20 to 30 seconds. Remove carefully with a slotted spoon and enjoy immediately.
