Chassidus Is For Is’hafcha
THROWING THE SADNESS OUT THE WINDOW
A bachur had yechidus with the Rebbe. He had a gloomy face and the Rebbe said, “This room cannot tolerate sadness. Open the window and throw the sadness out, and then we can talk.” The bachur stood there not knowing what to do. Should he actually throw sadness out the window?
The Rebbe said, “Yes, go over to the window and throw out the sadness and then come back.”
He went over to the window and then returned and the Rebbe began the yechidus.

THANKS TO ZERIZUS
The Rebbe once asked the Lubavitcher journalist, R’ Gershon Ber Jacobson, to respond to something that had been printed in The New York Times in connection to an educational program which the Rebbe considered a tragedy. The Rebbe asked him to come to him after Mincha and when he did, the Rebbe said to him, “I couldn’t sleep all night. What am I doing in 770 when, in New York, they are educating millions of children like this? What am I doing? What are the rabbanim doing? What are the newspapers doing?”
Taken aback, R’ Gershon Ber asked, “What should I do?”
The Rebbe said, “Do you know what zerizus is?” He said yes, and the Rebbe guided him in what to do.
R’ Gershon Ber did it and when he went back to the Rebbe, the Rebbe gave him three times “chai” dollars as his participation and said, “This is for the zerizus.”
The Rebbe asked again, “Do you know what zerizus is?” When he said yes, the Rebbe said, “Thanks to zerizus, a number of things happened in Jewish history. First, ‘And Avrohom woke up early in the morning’ - Avrohom was a big Chabadnik. He could have learned Likutei Torah, sichos and Chitas. When Hashem told him to take his son to the akeida, he could have taken him in the evening, after going to the mikva, checking his tzitzis, etc. but Avrohom got up early and didn’t look for excuses. Yashar koach for acting with zerizus and let us hope that all will be well.”

When the Chassid, R’ Dovid of Horodok, about whom the Rebbe Rashab said he is a Beinoni as explained in Tanya, returned from visiting the Rebbe Rayatz for Shavuos in Leningrad, he said, “The Rebbe demands lofty things of me. He told me: For ‘veering from evil and doing good’ one does not need Chassidus. The main chiddush of Chassidus is to get the Chassid to attain the level of is’hafcha, transforming evil into good.”

Crustless Broccoli-Sweet Potato Feta Quiche

90 Minutes DURATION
INGREDIENTS
12 ounces (1/2 bag) Beleaves Chopped Broccoli
1 small sweet potato, peeled and cubed
1 teaspoon Gefen Olive Oil salt pepper
6 XL eggs
1 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 cup chopped red onion
1/4 cup crumbled Ta’amti Feta
PREPARATION

1. Heat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with Gefen Parchment Paper. Place broccoli and sweet potato on baking sheet and toss with oil. Sprinkle salt and pepper evenly. Roast for 45 minutes or until the edges are browned and the vegetables are softened. Cool slightly.
2. In a mixing bowl, whisk eggs until well beaten. Add heavy cream, Dijon, salt and pepper and mix well.
3. Spray a nine-inch round baking pan with cooking spray. Scatter the roasted vegetables and red onion evenly. Pour the egg mixture. Top with feta cheese and bake until the edges brown and the center is set, about 35 minutes. Cut into slices and serve warm or at room temperature.
