getting your driver’s licence MINIMUM SUPERVISED DRIVING HOURS CONTINUED …

Someone you know Your supervising driver can be a parent, relative or friend, as long as they meet the requirements specified above. If you do ask someone you know to teach you how to drive, it is recommended that you refer them to the teaching someone to drive resource. STEP 3: PASS PDA It’s cool to pass the PDA test. What help can I get? Candidate’s Guide to the Practical Driving Assessment (PDA) has been prepared to help learner drivers develop the skills necessary to pass a PDA and become a safe driver. Available online, this handbook can also be downloaded in PDF format from our website. Visit www.transport.wa.gov. au/dvs

Once you have completed and recorded a minimum of 25 supervised driving hours in your Learner Guide and Log Book and you feel ready to sit the PDA, you can book to sit your PDA online at: https://online.transport.wa.gov.au. Don’t rush to book your PDA as the more practice you get, the better prepared you will be to pass it. Task 1: To sit your PDA you must: • Be a minimum of 16½ years of age (16 years of age for a moped R-N class). • Have completed a minimum of 25 supervised driving hours.* • Have submitted your Pre PDA Log Book – ensuring that your declaration of completion has been signed by you and your supervising driver.* • Provide a roadworthy vehicle of the correct class for your assessment. • Present your learner’s permit. • Present your primary and secondary identification. Task 2: Preparing for your PDA In addition to completing the minimum supervised driving hours, you should refer to the How to pass your driving assessment booklet and Drive Safe handbook to assist you in preparing for your PDA. You should only book your PDA when you are confident in your ability to pass the assessment items. If you fail your PDA, you will need to pay for your next PDA and wait a minimum seven days to sit another assessment. Task 3: What are the assessment items? The PDS determines whether you are ready to move onto the next step. It considers the quality of your driving rather than the way you perform individual skills.
