According to the USACE, Pittsburgh District’s 26,000 sq. mi. include portions of western Pennsylvania, northern West Virginia, eastern Ohio, western Maryland and southwestern New York. The jurisdiction includes more than 328 mi. of navigable waterways, 23 navigation locks and dams, 16 multi-purpose reservoirs, 42 local flood protection projects and other projects to protect and enhance the nation’s water resources, infrastructure and environment.
The district’s additional missions include water supply, emergency response and regulation of the Clean Water Act. The Corps often partners with local communities to improve water supply, sanitary sewer and stormwater infrastructure. During disasters, the district manages the nation’s emergency power contract, which provides temporary power to downed critical infrastructure. District personnel deploy overseas to help build, manage and administer water resource infrastructure projects. CEG

AEM Applauds Manufacturing Policies in House COMPETES Act
Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) senior vice president of government and industry relations Kip Eideberg issued the following statement on the House passage of the COMPETES Act.
“Passage of the America COMPETES Act moves us one step closer to our goal of strengthening America’s supply chains, training the next generation of skilled workers and supporting the future of equipment manufacturing in America,” said Eideberg.
“The authorization of $45 billion in grants, loans and loan guarantees to support supply chain resiliency will boost domestic manufacturing of critical goods. The inclusion of the BUILDS Act will ensure that American workers get the training they need to succeed and take on the family-sustaining jobs in the equipment manufacturing industry.
“Although the America COMPETES Act includes some worthy components — including for the CHIPS for America Act to bolster U.S. semiconductor capacity and new tools for supply chain resiliency — the legislation still needs a lot of work. Lawmakers must ensure there is sufficient funding for semiconductor research and development and establish a transparent process for equipment manufacturers to petition for Section 301 tariff exclusions.

Hunyady Auction Company held a virtual live absolute auction for McElroy Paving, March 2, 2022, from its headquarters in Hatfield, Pa.
After more than 55 years in the paving, utility and sport field construction industries, David Butler, owner of McElroy Paving, decided to retire and completely liquidate all assets.
