NTEA has added exclusive update sessions from five electric vehicle manufacturers to the Work Truck Week 2023 educational conference. These EV sessions join the dozen OEM updates previously announced.
During the sessions, manufacturer representatives will cover important technical information about their vehicle chassis, design and powertrains. The Association also has released more information about the Special Session: Leadership Journeys — Highlighting Diverse Experiences.
Work Truck Week, North America’s largest work truck event, is held at Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis March 7 to 10, 2023. It encompasses Green Truck Summit, The Work Truck Show, Ride & Drive and more. Green Truck Summit takes place at JW Marriott Indianapolis, adjacent to Indiana Convention Center, on March 7.
Work Truck Week educational sessions run March 7 to 9 and Work Truck Show exhibits are open March 8 to 10. Ride & Drive, which lets attendees experience commercial vehicles featuring the latest advanced fuels and technologies, is available March 8 to 9. Register at worktruckweek.com.
For more than 20 years, leading work truck chassis manufacturers have shared their latest chassis specifications and designs, reviewed body and equipment installation options and provided insight into future commercial vehicle plans during Work Truck Week OEM update sessions. This information is invaluable to upfitters and body builders looking to optimize their body and equipment designs and installation plans.
As new EV chassis manufacturers have come online, fleet and commercial customers are looking for upfitters who can provide solutions using the new platforms.
“Our update sessions offer truck and body equipment manufacturers, installers and upfitters the opportunity to get the facts they need to support their end-user customers and manage their businesses,” said Kevin Koester, NTEA managing director.
“There are a lot of questions and concerns about how to upfit electric vehicles, and as North America’s premier commercial vehicle event, Work Truck Week is an ideal venue to facilitate these conversations.”
The EV update sessions will be held on March 9. Participating manufacturers are Cenntro Automotive Corporation, Lion Electric, Lordstown Motors, VIA Motors Inc. and Xos Inc.
Other OEM update sessions begin March 7 and run through March 9. Participating companies include Chevrolet Commercial Vehicles, Daimler Truck North America, Ford Pro, Freightliner Custom Chassis, Hino Trucks, International Truck, Isuzu Commercial Truck of America, Kenworth Truck Company, Mack Trucks, MercedesBenz USA, Peterbilt Motors Company and Ram Commercial.
In addition to the OEM updates, the Work Truck Week 2023 educational program includes a variety of targeted sessions where industry experts and thought leaders share strategies to help improve efficiency, implement best practices and grow operations. Concurrent sessions address market data and industry trends, vehicle engineering and compliance, government relations, advanced fuels and vehicle technology, workforce development and more.
Registered Conference Package attendees can access on-demand materials from many of the concurrent sessions after the event concludes through their WTW23 Planner.
In-Depth Special Sessions
A new special session is scheduled for March 9. During Leadership Journeys — Highlighting Diverse Experiences, leaders from various segments of the commercial vehicle community will share their unique experiences and pathways to success during an interactive panel discussion moderated by NTEA Board Chair Tina Albright, VP of HR/safety at TBEI Inc.
Confirmed participants include Amy Dobrikova, vice president of fleet solutions at Blink Charging Co., and Exavious (Za) Farley, founder/CEO at Black Fleet Network.
Also on March 9, Creating a Roadmap to Increase Truck Dealer Commercial Vehicle Sales is designed to provide a blueprint for success to help truck dealers grow their business. It’s led by Ken Taylor, president at Ken Taylor & Associates.
Indiana LTAP returns with a fleet educational program on The Importance of Selecting the Right Equipment for Your Municipal Fleet. Purdue Road School offers two sessions, Indiana Statutes and Rules for Professional Engineering Licensure and Professionalism and Ethics in the Practice of Engineering.
The popular Fleet Management 101 led by Marc Canton and Tony Yankovich of fleet management consulting firm Mercury Associates Inc., returns March 8. Also March 8 is the Generation Next Leadership Workshop & Networking Reception EQ + TQ = Positive Workplace Climate. In this session, Coach Sidney Moncrief, Hall of Famer and motivational speaker at Moncrief One Team, discusses how managing a staff’s emotional intelligence (EQ) with their teamwork intelligence (TQ) brings about sustainable transformation in workplace climate.

CURRY from page 83 ty, Curry Supply's team completed the move from Martinsburg in four days of long hours and late nights. The move significantly increased the company’s manufacturing space to more than 500,000 sq. ft.
The new facility increases production efficiencies by implementing lean and flow technologies and features the latest machinery and components. Curry also has added several blast booths, paint booths and coating booths. Major expansion and upgrades are under way at the Curry Supply Houston facility in Hockley, Texas.
Curry Supply Company’s continued success is tied directly to its ability to embolden the success of its customers. Ritchey attributes the company’s phenomenal growth to listening to customers, understanding their needs and working to create logical solutions. In doing so, Curry Supply has evolved from an equipment dealer and distributor to a mainstream manufacturer.
“We cover every state and, to provide constant and comprehensive coverage, we’ve made sure to position sales personnel in every market we cover,” said Ritchey. “Our goal is for all our facilities to be equipped with duplicate capabilities. We’re focused on bringing a consistent level of service excellence and a best-of-class range of equipment to all our customers.”
Regarding the current business environment, Curry Supply Company has elected to address the challenges headon and lean into the rebound Ritchey is confident is coming.
“We’re all in the same boat, dealing with labor shortages, supply chain issues and rising material costs,” he said. “At Curry Supply Company, we see these as improvement opportunities instead of roadblocks. Part of that approach is positioning people with the skills and experience to overcome obstacles and work around challenges.”
To conquer some of those obstacles, Curry Supply brought in key personnel experienced in areas that tie directly into the company's growth plan.
“Last year we added on a senior director of supply chain and a vice president of operations who, combined, add over 45 years of industry specific experience and expertise to our team,” said Ritchey. “Those key additions provide us an extensive increase in experience when it comes to supply chain/procurement management and advanced manufacturing, ensuring that excellence in quality and efficiency remain central to Curry’s customer value proposition and growth strategy.”
Keeping on top of the supply chain also is necessary for Curry Supply to advance.
“Rather than wait to exhaust allocations, we work proactively with our suppliers while also searching out additional sources for equipment, materials and supplies,” he said. “Constant communications with our customers and vendors, providing information and updates, and receiving valuable feedback is critical to the process.”
As Ritchey looks to the future, he remains optimistic, seeing technology as among the driving forces behind both opportunities and solutions.
“There’s so much to build and enhance. The growth and increased demand for alternate energy sources will require a stronger grid. At the same time, ongoing infrastructure development and maintenance requirements call for 10-to-15-year projects such as airport construction and building and improving the domestic rail system.”
For Curry Supply Company, technology impacts every facet of the company’s operations. One area where technology has played a vital role in communications.
“Customer expectations have ramped up,” said Ritchey. “The nature of the business calls for constant access and immediate response. Communications technology provides the ability of real-time personal contact regardless of the hour or immediate automated response when appropriate.”
Keeping up with training technology also is a priority for Curry Supply; staying on top of it is necessary to attract and keep top employees.
“Technology is playing a growing role in attracting new workers to the trades,” he said. “Virtual reality is already being employed in the training and certification process. With VR, an individual can learn and hone a skill like welding in a safe and rewarding environment. The upcoming generation of workers is already adept at video games, and VR training provides a natural progression."
Ritchey also sees equipment continuing to evolve.
“With advances in engineering, design, and increased battery life, electronic vehicles and machines are becoming more mainstream. We plan on being active participants, and Curry Supply Company will debut a new EV at ConExpo in March.”
With a firm foundation centered around controlled growth, a proactive and progressive eye to the future and a more than capable group of hands and minds, Curry Supply is primed for the next 90 years of rapid growth. CEG

Curry Supply photo Already one of the largest manufacturers of commercial service trucks and rail equipment across the United States, Curry Supply Company’s recent move to Hollidaysburg, Pa., and opening of a second facility in Houston, Texas, has increased its manufacturing and service operations exponentially.

Manitou Presents Hydrogen Strategy Overview With First Prototype Telehandler
Manitou Group, a world reference in the handling, aerial work platform and earth moving sectors, presents its roadmap for research and development on hydrogen-powered machines, including the first prototype telehandler running on green hydrogen. Energy Transition Acceleration
With a target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 34 percent per hour of use of its machines in 2030, Manitou Group has set off on an ambitious course, in line with the commitments of its low-carbon trajectory communicated in January 2022 and validated by the SBTi in July.
Following on from the recent electrification of its all-terrain platform and telehandler ranges, the group also is looking to hydrogen as a medium-term alternative for its users.
Manitou Group wants to see its electric and hydrogen ranges side by side depending on each user’s applications, with a target of 43 percent low-emissions products marketed in 2030.
Dedicated Hydrogen Development Plan
Manitou Group has presented its new facilities for making its hydrogen development plan a success to journalists and elected representatives. By kitting its test center out with a green hydrogen station, the group now has the means for testing its brand new prototype telehandler.
The first step of this plan involves guaranteeing range and reliability in real-life conditions, while testing the durability of components. The group based this first prototype on an existing model from its range of construction machines, capable of lifting loads up to 14 m. This machine will be tested and sent out to construction sites by the end of 2023 with a view to collecting valuable feedback from users to improve on this prototype.
Two types of hydrogen technology currently are being evaluated by the market, namely the combustion engine and the fuel cell. The group’s first prototype is built around a fuel cell, but the group will choose the hydrogen solutions that best meet the needs of its customers.
Michel Denis, managing director of the group, said, “We are studying all the hydrogen-related technologies based on what users need. This prototype is only the first step. A second rotating telehandler prototype will be developed in the coming months. There are many benefits of green hydrogen with production possible using wind power that has no greenhouse gas emissions at all. This fits in perfectly with our low-carbon trajectory.”
With this first prototype, the group is showcasing its ability to innovate in order to measure the autonomy of this new energy while offering its customers the hydrogen solution that best meets their needs, but without compromising on performance.
Almost 50 engineers and technicians are dedicated to this approach, which was launched in 2021. To come up with an
Manitou Group, a world reference in the handling, aerial work platform and earth moving sectors, presents its roadmap for research and development on hydrogen-powered machines, including the first prototype telehandler running on green hydrogen. innovative solution that can be fully industrialized, the group hopes to rely on the support of the public authorities to develop an emerging ecosystem. Julien Waechter, VP R&D Manitou Group, said “The green hydrogen sector is gradually becoming more established with the entry onto this market of a number of players. All of the aid mechanisms proposed by the different governments will encourage the transition to hydrogen, and will speed up the development of the distribution network and ultimately the reduction in the usage costs of our machines using this energy.” With these new facilities, Manitou Group hopes to offer its customers new innovative prospects, with a 100 percent hydrogen-powered telehandler available on the market by 2026. Innovation in DNA With more than 350 engineers on its workforce, Manitou Group is constantly innovating by offering its users high added-value solutions. To succeed, the group invests in its 10 R&D centers around the world. The modernization of its production units also is essential to ensure this ability to innovate. This is demonstrated by the recent investment plan announced for the production sites in the United States and France. The most recent aerial work platform factory opened in 2022 clearly illustrates this willingness. Whether it concerns the choice of components, user comfort, or the attachment on the machine, innovation is everywhere. An autonomous order-picking robot, electric all-terrain platforms and 100 percent electric telehandlers are all examples of innovation. To support this development, the group incorporates engaging CSR criteria from the design stage to develop machines that are increasingly durable and responsible.
