Kennewick man tops poker winnings

MISSION — Jorge Canada from Kennewick was the big winner in the 2015 Fall Poker Round-Up All Around championship Nov. 14 at Wildhorse Casino on the Umatilla Indian Reservation. Canada won a championship jacket, a silver bracelet and bragging rights. He won more than518,700 in the 12~ annual No-Limit H o l d 'em event that boasted 574 entrants. The tournament ran Nov. 6-14. Canada was fourth on the fourth day among 300 participants. Wildhorse paid out more than 560,000with the top money — 513,837 — going to Michael Lucas from Lake Oswego, Oregon. 13, when the payout for 360 players was more than 5107,000. He won 513,230. First place went to Ron Brown from Spirit Lake, Idaho, with winnings for 523,640. The largest payout of the week came on Saturday, Nov. 14, when Minh Thy Leadao of Portland, walked away from a field of 379 No-Limit Hold'em players with 542,218 of the payout of 5190,025. A few other local players, including Michelle Thompson from Mission, were among top five fi nishers in the daily games. Thompson won 51,782 with a fifth-place finish in a H.O.R.S.E. game on Nov. 10. Also, Phillip Ferguson from Hermiston won 59,049 on day one and Richard

Hampton from Pendleton won 56,631 on day three. Wildhorse Resort 8z Casino hosts three large poker tournaments each year, the fall event being the largest. Thousands of participants come from all over the United States and Canada for their chance at a big payout. The spring event, held each April saw nearly 3400 participants and paidout over 5716,000. The Summer Poker Rodeo held each July paid out over 5210,000 and the most recent, Fall Poker Round-Up hosted each November saw close to 3550 participants and paid nearly 5750,000. Al l s a id, the annual poker tournaments paid an astounding 51.67 million dollars in 2015.

The list includes: Sixth graders- Isabella Lecornu, David Thompkins and Greyson Sams. Seventh graders — Tray Bale, Ashlynn Looney, Kalan Spencer, Kyra Jackson, Kiara Crawford-Templin, Jimmy Jones, Lillian Star and Celia Farrow. Eighth graders — Chauncey Sams, Paris Leighton, Tyanna Van Pelt and N y l ei James. Outstanding s t u d ents recognized by Pendleton School District 16R were Chelsea Farrow, Kylie Mountain Chief and Chauncey Sams.
