Giving Back to the People Behind Our Industry
By Abby Langenberg, SBCA Director of Business Development & Member Engagement
T
he structural building components industry has always been built on relationships. We share ideas, help one another solve problems, and come together when someone in our industry or community needs support. The SBCA Foundation provides a meaningful way to turn that spirit of generosity into action.
This August, the Foundation launched its first-ever Giving Campaign, inviting individuals, companies, chapters, and industry partners to help strengthen the people and communities connected to our industry. The SBCA Foundation is a standalone 501(c) (3) organization wholly owned by SBCA. Its mission is to give back to our communities through philanthropic efforts that improve housing-related opportunities for those in need. Since its inception, the Foundation has contributed more than $300,000 toward initiatives focused on workforce development, support for industry employees and their families, and housing affordability. One of the Foundation’s most important initiatives is the Hardship Grant Program. Unexpected events can create significant financial challenges for employees and their families. Whether they are facing an illness, natural disaster, accident, or another difficult circumstance, the program provides assistance when it is needed most. The Foundation also supports efforts to recruit, train, and educate the industry’s future workforce; advance innovation and industry development; and create partnerships that help expand access to safe, affordable housing. Throughout the Giving Campaign, there are several ways to get involved. Individuals can make a direct donation, companies can establish matching gift programs, and organizations can become Percent of Purchase partners by contributing a portion of eligible sales to the Foundation.
