hile sitting in my sister’s hospital room following her stroke, two very nice people from hospital security appeared. Using the security camera footage, they had tracked me from the hospital parking garage, walking through the night entrance, taking the elevators up to the third floor, and entering the ICU. Knowing I was wearing a floral shirt, they were going door-to-door and I was sitting in the fourth room they entered.

Good or Bad News In the wee hours of the morning, a man had smashed my driver’s side window and pilfered items from our car. The joke was on him—we had nothing good to steal! The only thing “of value” he took was my sister’s prescription sun glasses—which will give him a tremendous headache unless he’s nearsighted too! So, was this good news or bad news? To me, I was very impressed with how considerate and thoughtful the security personnel were to us. They were truly apologetic this had happened, and were concerned we would be upset. Knowing it was not their fault, I certainly was not mad at them, and I was very appreciative of their efforts to find and inform me.

We Get to Choose To me, this story is not about a broken window and the cost to replace it. This is about meeting nice people under lousy circumstances. When I asked, security even provided me with some traffic cones, so after the car parked next to me left, we could keep that parking space empty and the mobile technician I hired would be able to replace the glass. That repairman was also very nice and did an amazing job of cleaning up all the glass so I could drive the car again! I am thankful that these nice folks all treated me well and were able to help me. I am glad that my sister is doing well enough following her stroke that we have be able to resume her weekly chemo schedule. I’m sorry that I’m unable attend BCMC Indianapolis this September, but I remain connected to this industry via modern technology instead (and you can always reach me via email or phone). And, on the bright side, I don’t have to worry about delayed flights or lost luggage! PHONE: 800-289-5627
