remote Offices This is how we do it! Part III
ith over 30 years of experience, Roy Aldworth has worked both in office and remote. He currently works on extremely large multifamily residential projects, city block sized up to 7 stories high. He started working from home 8 years ago and was so much more productive it became permanent.

There are many distractions at the office that can make you less productive. Roy comments, “The camaraderie is what I missed at first, but not so much anymore. If I need to talk I can text, call, or video conference any time I need to.” Importantly, he doesn’t miss the commute. It used to stress him out and he would always get home in a bad mood. The time spent commuting is now spent working, so the company gets more out of him in the same period of time. He works in a basement office and his mindset is “I am at work,” so he puts in a full day’s work as if he was in the office. “I have never been happier and I’m not sure I could go back to an office job,” adds Roy. He has a Dell precision 5810 with 4 monitors and recently purchased a 30” x 72” motorized bamboo desk that raises and lowers to programmed heights for sitting and standing. The contoured rubber mat helps with the fatigue of standing for long periods. He is in the basement, so he uses a wireless WiFi extender that connects with an Ethernet cable to bring the internet to him. He finds that being in the basement eliminates the distractions of home life, too.
