CAA Safeguarding Policy

The Commonwealth Association of Architects (the Association) is committed to ensuring the safety and protection of all individuals we serve, including children, young people, and vulnerable adults. We uphold their right to be safe from harm, abuse, or neglect.

Purpose

This policy outlines our commitment, processes, and responsibilities for safeguarding and promoting the well-being of individuals involved in or affected by our activities.

Scope

This policy applies to all staff, volunteers, trustees, and anyone working on behalf of the Association.

Key Principles

• The welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults is our top priority.

• Everyone has the right to live free from abuse and neglect.

• All suspicions and allegations of abuse will be taken seriously and responded to appropriately.

• We are committed to providing a safe environment and preventing harm.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Trustees: Ensure effective implementation of safeguarding practices

• Staff and Volunteers: Be vigilant, undergo training, and follow reporting procedures.

• Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO): The Executive Director serves as the DSO, leads on safeguarding concerns and liaises with external agencies where required.

Code of Conduct

All representatives of the Association must adhere to the following principles:

• Treat everyone with dignity and respect.

• Avoid situations where you are alone with a vulnerable person unless necessary.

• Report any safeguarding concerns immediately to the DSO.

Procedures for Reporting Concerns

• Recognize: Identify signs of abuse or neglect.

• Respond: Reassure the individual and ensure their immediate safety.

• Record: Document the concern accurately.

• Report: Share the information with the DSO or relevant authority promptly.

Training

All staff, volunteers, and trustees must complete safeguarding training relevant to their role. Training will be reviewed and refreshed regularly.

Monitoring and Review

This policy has been approved by CAA Council. It will be reviewed annually to ensure its effectiveness and compliance with legal requirements.
