As a theological educator, Van Dyk is a strong proponent of theology addressing the present needs of the Church, particularly in the areas of worship and racial-ethnic diversity. His other interests include Hebrew poetry, biblical theology, textual criticism, ancient and medieval visual art, and philosophy. Specific interests include creation theology, faith and science dialogue, the Psalms, and wisdom literature (Proverbs, Job, and Ecclesiastes). Her current research explores how parents and the church can have faithful conversations around fantasy literature for children and youth. She was chosen as the 2015 Educator of the Year by the Association of Presbyterian Church Educators. 67
