ABOUT THE POOLS FAQâ€™s - How Do I Become An Instructor & Lifeguard How to Become an Instructor
NEW: AWSI and WSI have been combined into one course with a series of fun interactive modules! WSI - Water Safety Instructor: WSI is now an 8 week course that covers the foundation of instructional skills including teaching methods, learning styles, planning, teaching and evaluating swimmers. Candidates are evaluated throughout the course and through individual study assignments. Upon successful completion of the course, candidates are certified as Water Safety Instructors and will be able to teach Red Cross Swim programs. Candidates must be 15yrs by the end of the course, hold a current Standard 1st Aid / CPR certification and attend 100% of the course to complete.
How to Become a Lifeguard
There are 3 courses that must be completed to become a lifeguard: Bronze Medallion/Cross is a 32 hour course that will certify the successful candidate in both Bronze Medallion & Cross. Candidates must be 13+ yrs or have completed Bronze Star. Bronze Medallion is tested before testing for Bronze Cross & Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for National Lifeguard. Standard First Aid and CPR C with AED is a 16 hour course that all candidates must have as a prerequisite to the National Lifeguard program. National Lifeguard is a 40 hour course that will certify successful candidates with the NL Pool Option Award. Candidates must be 16+ years old, have a current Bronze Cross and hold a current Standard 1st Aid / CPR C / AED certification.
