I’m confused on what people want printed here in CHOPS, when it comes to stories?

Do you want more stories, like in this issue or do you want more of my stories?

Let me know when I see you. BTW, I have had one person say we have way too much reading and not enough pictures, but he’s just one out of a hundred who have said right the opposite, so LOL, I’ll just follow my heart. The last issue, to me, was NOT enough good reading, cause I had so many pics, but I think I made up for it this time, so ENJOY!!! Besides, it’s got to last you 2 months, as I’m going to take a short break and take off July!

I got to take a ride up to KY & TN this month and I had one of the best times of my life. I got my ‘05 Road King back and it was like riding in a nice recliner, or as my “thorn in the side” Shaun called it, “A Two Wheeled Mini Van”, HAHAHA, and that’s a pretty good analogy! However, I’ve rode the same amount of miles per day (750 to 850) on the ‘96 Softail, which there is NOTHING soft about it, nor a balanced engine like the Twin Cam ones.

I’ve also ridden the old 1989 stripped down Ultra Classic, my son’s bike, hundreds of miles per day, including a 1,470 mile trip bimonthly from my home in KY to see my pastor friend in OKC, who had a Set Free Church there. I always rode it straight through. I rode that motorcycle at least 15 or 20 times from KY to Texarkana, TX. again straight through, sometimes leading 5 to 25 other bikes along the way.

While I am bragging, I also rode Taz’s ‘0?, Ultra from Cincinnati to NSB, with only 5 stops. That one hurt as I wore a full helmet that had my trapezius muscles aching after about 300 miles...........Pg 10

I’ve messed up some since that Wednesday night in August of 1983, but He has kept my foot on that Rock (Jesus) and has used me (Established my goings)! What about you my friend? Do you talk about Him? Do you ever use His name, appropriately?

Do you know His name? Have you ever did what He said in John 3, about being Born Again? He is listening for you to talk to Him!!!

And then there is the Chopper.

I know I’ve ridden to the “ShadyMayhem” party, but had to get a room because of a bad storm that came upon us, but as Stogie and I rode together several hundred miles after the party, to KY . On the way back home, I first went to the Smoke Out, so the first day I rode about 550 miles straight there. I hung out for a couple of days, before leaving Salisbury, NC on secondary roads to NSB, again it was straight through. This was on my old Shovelhead Chopper, that actually rode easier and better than the ‘96 Softail. So, it’s just in my DNA. Once I get in the “Zone”, I’m rolling, especially if I’m scooting alone. When others ride with me, I try to always be conscience of them, like what size gas tank are they running or if they’re comfortable or struggling.

However, I have never shown much sympathy on smokers, who want to stop way to often.

I’m not a Bean’re who can put down some serious miles, but I have rode right at 1,000 miles a day 25 or 30 years ago, again on the 1989.

Though not Bean’re (look him up, the Mayor of Fun), I’m not scared to roll long distances, by himself. And yes, there have been a few times were I bit off more than I could chew, like waiting to long before leaving and had to really push it way to hard to get home. And there have been many, many times I was hurting before I got the first hundred miles under my seat, but I adjusted my packs or my position and powered through it.

Maybe next issue, I’ll talk about my trip to see my family and preach a revival effort in my hometown. I go there for one thing, to hang out with my kids and grandbabies, and if I run into friends, that’s cool, but I don’t go to see friends, I go to hold my babies. The pastor of the church asked when I was coming up, I told him in two weeks, he said, “Well while you are here, could you preach for us?” I always jump on any opportunity to share about Jesus, & what He did for me.

Back many years ago I bought an old Harley basket case. Engine was blown up and

everything needed fixed or replaced. In rural Virginia there was a Dairy farmer known for building tight and reliable engines. C.T. Wickline had been building and repairing Harley’s out of a shed on his dairy farm, for 50 years or more. (this was 1980) So I take my busted engine to him and he looks at it and decides to salvage the cases but trash the rest. So he orders an S&S 88 stroker kit, and then lays down the rules!! Every time I show up to help milk the cows he will work on my engine, and I have to buy all the parts!! So I have to get up at 4:00am and drive to his farm and help milk and then clean all the equipment almost every morning for a couple months!! After milking his wife would have breakfast on the table and then down to the shed to build on my engine. S&S stroker with a Lineweber J-3 cam and a S&S Super B carb. When not working for him I stripped the frame and sheet metal and repainted. W ent through the transmission and every single part of that old 72 Shovelhead!

Old C.T. could out work three people and that was with a wooden leg as he lost one at Daytona in a motorcycle wreck back in the 60’s. I asked him one time why he helped teach some of us how to build motorcycles? He said each Harley mechanic should try to mentor and teach someone else before we die!! He passed away a few years later and I never forgot the lessons that old man taught me.

The rich girl, the cheerleader, the sexy one would look at this dude and whisper to her friends, “Look at this nasty biker!” And then walk away with her uppity group of followers, but always looked back and do the mischievous smile while running her eyes over his whole body, from nasty boots to wind mangled oily hair, while sticking her finger to her lips, as to insinuate she likes what she sees, but she could never say so in public. Yet, one night out, she was heading home when she saw him getting gas & pulled over to him & asked for a ride. He said “no” without even looking up from his Sporty tank he was filling, but said ”After I finish what I have planned with one of your cheer leading friends, I’ll be back here in 2 hours”. It was midnight then, so with a bruised ego and trying to figure out which friend that he was meeting, squealed off in her sweet yellow “Vette!!! Only to return at 2am to sit and wait for this “Nasty Biker”! Did he show? Any ideas???

Have you ever thought about this? When the chit really hits the fan here in America, if or when our Nation collapses because of ignorant politicians, who will the average man, like you and me, be fighting?

Will our own soldiers turn on us? Or will China and Russia team up, as it appears they are doing, and comes here to attack America, and we US citizens have to fight them? Not just our soldiers, but fighting along next to them, IF we become allies.

Why is it so important to these imbeciles in DC, who want to take away our weapons, especially rifles, from us? I mean we know if “they” disarm us, whether “they” are friend or foe, it will be very easy to defeat us!

AGAIN, will American soldiers turn on us? Will police officers turn their weapons on us regular citizens? Who will give the word, to charge us, to bring their “rank and file” against all Americans?

Whether it’s little babies in the arms of their mommas, or the old lady down the street, just wanting to live her life out in peace? WHO, Politicians? Whether federal or state? Perhaps Police chiefs?

I think it is time we STOP this bull chit, and oppose these stupid azz people who think they are in charge. These dumbazzes think we work for them, BUT we know the truth! It’s time to shut them up and yank the air out of their balloons of thinking they are untouchable and believing they’re the upper echelon and protected by, well whatever they think protects them. I think it’s time to do something, but what. We’re ALL tired of TALKING it, BUT NOT Walking it!!!

Perhaps the first step would be to let all “men” that are 60 years and older start to march on DC. We’ve lived a pretty good life, and our days are about up anyway, and then whether they kill us or imprison each patriot, bring on all men that have military training that took the oath to “defend our nation against ALL enemies, foreign AND domestic”. And we know who the domestic enemy is, the RICH corrupt POLITICIANS, funded by Soros and such. Let us go brothers!

I’ve been wearing this one since the mid or late 90’s, a lot of good miles It will be replaced with this beauty! I had 3 or 4 shirts I could have chossen from, but this one matches the old one the closets.

Guess Who Is Turning 50 Years Old? That’s Correct, The Boot, Est. 1973 - 2023

In 1969, long hair could be a problem….

On May 20, 1969, Chicago bassist Peter Cetera, after just finishing a tour decided to take in a baseball game to relax. He went to Dodger Stadium in LA, where his beloved Cubs were playing the Dodgers. In the crowd were four Marines who noticed his long hair, didn’t like the ‘hippie’ and beat him so badly that they broke his jaw in 3 places and Peter lost four teeth.

He spent five hours in surgery and two days in intensive care.

Because he had to have his jaw wired shut, it changed the way he sang after the wires were removed. The late 60’s were still a dangerous time!

Randomly Rambling “Where we going”, I asked as I’m backing one of the bikes out of the garage. “Oh, I don’t care”, she replied. “Ok”. Sound familiar?

Happens about every other time we roll a bike out. So I aimed the bike East and off we went. Hit the stop sign at US1, thumbed the left turn signal on, and waited for the traffic to clear.

“Where are you going”? She asked.

“I don’t know, North why”? “I don’t really want to go North”. So I reversed coarse, thumbed on the right turn signal, and South it is! (I thought she didn’t care where we went). We’re only a mile and a half from home and we’re already on Plan “B”? Sound familiar?

Nice day for a ride, a bit on the cool side but a welcomed change from the blistering Florida heat. Do I need gas?

Should have checked before we left the house. No gas stations when you get down south of Oak Hill for awhile. I think we’re alright. Did they paint Oak Hill City Hall? Looks different. Why would they paint a building that’s been empty for years? Maybe someone bought it and they’re going to finally use it for something. But why build so

many new buildings when there’s plenty of empty ones?

Huh, another dead raccoon. How slow, or dumb do these critters have to be to get hit by an object so big and coming at them usually with at least two headlights glaring right at them? Are cars part of the eco system to control raccoon population and provide food for buzzards? Uh, Oh! That can’t be right. I just saw a dead buzzard.

How come I’ve never seen buzzards eat their own?

Woops! Going a little fast. Speed limit hasn’t changed yet. Don’t want a speeding ticket. Was that ‘63 Corvette going the other way? Is there a car show somewhere? I love cars shows! even on was a couple years ago in Big Pine Key with my big brother, Mike and his Bride, Vita. I love the Keys! Grew up just about an hour and a half or so North of Key Largo. Man, was that motorhome nice! Big azz one, too! Wonder if they’re hard to drive? Bet you can’t cruise through a drive through though. But, why would you? Everything you need is inside. You’re right, that would be kind of silly.

Speed limit change! Wonder how many people actually do the speed limit? I do, most of the time. Don’t want a speeding ticket. OOPS! Already said that. Wonder how fast that big azz motorhome can go?

With a boat behind it!? I love boats, cars, bikes, and airplanes. Now I guess like motorhomes, too! Good thing I’m doing the speed limit.

Just saw a Police car sitting in an inconspicuous place. Are they hiding to catch speeders or are they hiding just to take a break?

Here’s where I usually get gas. I usually hit the same pump, too.

Is that weird? Ok, tanks full. Ready to ride. “Where are you going now”, she asked...Again. Sound familiar? “I thought we’d head out 520 and stop at the Lone Cabbage” “I’d really rather go to Port Canaveral”, she hinted. Port Canaveral it is! Plan C is now in full swing! Puzzling, ain’t it?

Again! Seems like there’s never ending construction everywhere!

They no sooner finish a project and then start a new one! Sometimes on the same road!! Man the water is beautiful! Sun is shining off of the ripples like flashy diamonds. Left off of the causeway, left into the parking lot. Nice! There’s a spot up front.

What am I going to have for lunch? Probably the same thing as last time. Well, at least I have the whole ride home for some more............. ................................Randomly Rambling.

This is my granddaughter Bailey, who is pregnant with my very first great grand child, a boy.

They were called the Mexican Cowboys, and they hung out at a restaurant and bar down on the old Artery. They rode a mix of British iron, a couple of Sportsters, and 450 Hondas.

they went away.

They weren’t bad boys, really, most Vietnam veterans that were trying to figure out life, find a girl, and maybe a decent job. But the time spent in the war zone had clouded all that for most of them, it looked like they were trying to find themselves as they were before

There where they hung out claimed to have the “ World’s Longest Bar” and it did appear that way since the bar curved around the inside of the building clear out of sight.

They were a bit wild, and rowdy but the restaurant owner understood them, he being a Korean War vet himself. He just asked that they hang at the far end of the bar, and he’d see to it they’d get good service, and they did.

Her name was Rita, a buxom short blonde bombshell that handled that end of the bar. It was said she carried 2 .45s in her bra, and those Army Colts nestled right in there,well hidden. I know this because I at that time was driving a taxi for old Pop Jones and I often drove Rita home at closing time. The Bar would call Pops cabstand about 12:30 and ask for the Zoomobile, a 9 passenger Ford wagon, that I usually drove. It had a 352, 4 bbl. And even for a big car would fly.

As the night would get late the bar owner, Maury, would watch the Mexican Cowboys, and any that had to much to drink he’d quietly move their bikes out back, and offer them a safe ride home for free.

It was crazy, 2 or 3 Cowboys along with Rita at closing time.

On the way home for my fares I was stopped at a light when a car pulled in front of me and 3 dudes bailed out. It was warm and my windows were down, you can only imagine the smells in that car with drunks and Rita along, she wisely always rode shotgun, and these guys Chops 40

were out to rob me of my way bills, always cash back in those days.

One had a gun, that I could see. This looked bad. I bantered with the guy at my window, told him it was a slow night, and all, the Cowboys were conked out in the back, when all of a sudden Rita is brandishing both pistols and waving them around shouting “ Who wants to die first!”

She was yelling and pointing the pistols all over the place, when one went off, luckily through the cars roof. The Cowboys awoke with a start and exited the car along with Rita, who was still off her rocker with those guns. The dudes made a fast getaway, and Rita fired a parting couple of shots at their vehicle as they pulled away. It was over, the Cowboys thought it was hilarious, and hugged and kissed Rita, and told her she was great to have along in a war zone.

Rita tucked those guns back into her low cut top, and sure enough you couldn’t see them. She patted her ample chest and said she never left home without them. We all had a laugh. I never told old Pop about the bullet hole in the roof of the Zoomobile, I don’t think he ever knew.

Today’s 3-year-olds can switch on laptops and open their favourite apps. When I was 3, I ate mud.

So, you drive across town to a gym to walk on a treadmill?

I didn’t make it to the gym today. That makes five years in a row.

I decided to stop calling the bathroom “John” and renamed it the “Jim”. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Old age is coming at a really bad time.

If God wanted me to touch my toes, He would’ve put them on my knees.

Last year I joined a support group for procrastinators. We haven’t met yet.

Why do I have to press one for English when you’re just going to transfer me to someone I can’t understand anyway?

Now, I’m wondering . . . did I send this to you, did you send it to me or have I only seen one copy?

You don’t need anger management. You need people to stop pissing you off.

Your people skills are just fine. It’s your tolerance for idiots that needs work.

“On time” is when you get there.

Even duct tape can’t fix stupid – but it sure does muffle the sound.

It would be wonderful if we could put ourselves in the dryer for ten minutes, then come out wrinkle-free...and three sizes smaller.

I don’t know what to say about this man, who is definitely an ICON here in the Harley Mecca of the World.

I guess I’ll just write what I know about this man, not other’s stories, which I know 99% of them are true, but if I only share what I’ve

I can say this for sure, if Jack doesn’t like you, you won’t know it, (in some cases) and if he does like you, well, you still won’t know it, HaHaHa! He’s just that way. He’ll show his friendship/brotherhood by actions, and maybe a few words. How I know he likes me (I think)? He shows up for the Freedom Rides at times, and we always have a better time when he’s with us, and he’s got me a few ads for the magazine over the years. Has he ever called me Brother (a word thrown around so meaningless now a days), I don’t think he has? Has he ever called me his friend, again I’m not sure, but I don’t recall it, if so. But am I one of them to him, yes! How do I know? From what I said earlier.

Bogus (I don’t know where he got that name) is just plain vanilla, no flash, no bright lights, no anything that makes him stand out in a crowd, or lifts himself up, as to draw attention to himself, but he is all those things in the eyes of many of us. To me Bogus Jack is a headliner, period!

I’m the same way), if he cares for you, it doesn’t matter how many people may say something negative about that person, Jack will defend them till the end. Your opinion means nothing to him, and like I say, “Don’t expect me to dislike someone that you don’t like, just because we’re friends, until they do me wrong.”

I’ve heard him talk about all the good times he has had on his riding across America and some of the shenanigans he’s got into or witnessed at many of the BIG Biker Events. He has traveled many miles and made several friends at all of the events like Sturgis, Myrtle Beach, in other words Everyone that’s Everyone who HAS lived the TRUE biker’s lifestyle KNOWS Bogus Jack from Daytona Beach, FL. When I first met him, he was President of the Black Pistons, and was really hard to get to know, I blamed it on being in the club, but nope, that’s just Bogus, but as I said earlier, if he likes you, you won’t know it through words, but actions, which are much, much louder than many flimsy words we use today.

THE LIFE THAT MANY WILL NOT UNDERSTAND:

I own a motorcycle because of a personal life choice.

One day when I am very old and when I cannot ride anymore, it will be in my garage as a trophy of my memories.

I have met people who taught me something and have the same spirit. I meet people now who get wisdom from me.

I get wet, I get cold, and I have been hot, I was afraid, I fell, and I stood up, I even hurt myself, But also, I laughed out loud with the wind.

I spoke a thousand times with myself and Still do. I sang and shouted with joy like a madman, And yes ... sometimes I cried.

I have seen wonderful places because of motorcycles.

I have made curves that even my dad would be proud of; other times I made curves full of terror.

I stopped many times to see a landscape. And I spoke with perfect strangers. I go out with frustrations inside and return home with a feeling of absolute peace in my heart.

I always think how dangerous it is, knowing that the meaning of courage is to advance even feeling fear.

Every time I go out to my ride I think about how wonderful it is. I learned through gestures to communicate with other riders.

I spend money that I do not have, I gave up many things, but it’s all worth it.

My bike is not a means of transportation but is a piece of steel, aluminum and plastic with wheels that I am blessed with, it’s part of who I am. I love my friends and the joy of great people & motorcycles!

Andrew W. Liuzzi Although I dont get out as often as I would like I still consider bikers as family and will do all in my power to give and show my support.

I’ve had people say to me, “Why are you raising your kids around Bikers? “Why do you allow them to be around that lifestyle?” Aren’t you afraid of who they will become?”

Let me tell you, yes, I’m afraid of who they will become one day, that’s why they are around Bikers. Yes, they are around Bikers about 95% of the time when they are out with us. Yes, they are learning about the lifestyle of Bikers. Know why? I’m afraid they are growing up in a “me first” world and the best way to teach them to help others is to watch others that are there for each other. The people I ride with are some of the most giving people that I’ve ever met. The truest, the most loyal, the humblest. I’ve seen countless times these people give everything they can to help someone they don’t know. I’ve been on runs where they drive by a kids house for his birthday because he had terminal cancer just to cheer him up, I’ve been on runs where they drove hours to honor a Veteran that gave us the Freedom we have today, I’ve seen “dirty bikers” go to hospitals to visit people they don’t know just to sit with the family and not say a word, I’ve seen Bikers pack courtrooms to support a kid that was bullied, and I’ve seen Bikers support their “patch family when their own blood wouldn’t.

You see Bikers have a creed, a Motto, a set of standards they live by.

Honor and Respect above all else. “You ride out together, you ride in together!” The patch next to you means something. It means you are family. Whether your an Association, an MC, a RC, Veteran Group, MRO, or a MM group, you have a reason to be there and that reason doesn’t go anywhere without each other.

So I ask you this. Why don’t you raise your kids around Bikers? Why aren’t you doing more to teach them the right way to be? My kids will be fine when they get older because they have seen the way to help others by watching their Biker Family. Motorcycle boots are hard to fill, when my kids are ready, those boots will fit snug and tight.

NOT ONLY A LOCAL LEGEND/ICON, BUT ALSO A NATIONAL LEGEND IN FIGHTING AGAINST Big Brother BACK IN THE 1970’s, THE MAN? John “Rouge” Herlihy We had the whole interstate system jammed. Cops and press came out of the woodwork.

One of the state cops pulled up like gang busters and started to yank a riot shotgun out of his trunk, when the Sergeant slammed the trunk on his arms and yelled, “Are you crazy. The biker broads have more fire power than we do, and no telling what the guys have?”

My ol’ lady BEEP was standing there and the cop asked her if she was carrying, and of course she was. She had a 9 mm Browning in a shoulder rig and a permit to carry it. They made her unload it and gave it right back, after she threatened to sue their asses if they didn’t. They told her not to reload until she left. The cops at this time were carrying .38 Caliber revolvers.

Every state trooper and most of the cops knew who I was and hunted me down. There was some talk about arresting people, and I told them, “Arrest us all or no one.” They threatened to tow bikes, but our women again had licenses, and of course we had a couple of flat bed trucks there with plenty of tie downs.

Sandy, the photographer, was there from Easyriders magazine and the cops tried to take his film. He handed it to Beep and she put it down the front of her pants. The cops new better than go for it, and told her that if she didn’t give it up they were going to arrest her. She agreed and said she would slip into the van and retrieve it. As she slid the door open my Belgium Shepherd Jimbo greeted the cops, and they did not want any thing to do with our attack dog.

Beep got in the van and soon returned with a roll of film. She had switched it in the van and gave them a blank roll.

A couple of hours later we made our point and rode out, but the traffic was backed up for 50 miles in ever direction. We were out partying hours later and the streets and highways were still jammed.

I few days later I got a phone call from Ella Grosso, the governor. She wanted a meeting with me.

I rode to Hartford, with a few of my brothers, and a handful of state cops were there to meet me. They started off threatening to throw me in jail. Been there, done that.

“Do you really want to make me the poster boy for civil rights?” I told her if I went to jail one of my radical, more violent, brothers would take over. The bottom line: if we could get Washington to remove the Blackmail threat of withholding highway funds she would sign our Helmet repeal.

When the meeting with the governor was over State Police head, Nick Barone, threatened me, “I’ll get you, even if I have to set you up.”

In December of 1975 the United States Senate had a hearing regarding the Cranston-Helms amendment to an appropriations bill that would prevent the Federal Government from withholding money to states that did not pass Mandatory Helmet Laws.

There were a lot of people testifying before the Senate and I was one of them. I stated that I was from Connecticut, The Constitution State, and I wanted to know when the Government of the United States condoned blackmail.

That upset the Senate and they told me I had better explain. I told them that my governor, Ella Grosso, did not want to sign a helmet law repeal, even though it had passed the House and Senate in Connecticut, because the Federal Government threatened to withhold Federal Highway Funds. I told them that I possessed this statement in writing. At the time I was Reverend Herlihy ( I was there representing BIKERS CHURCH). They demanded to see this document. I had 24 hours to deliver it to the capital.

I called some of my people and the Governor. We had to move fast. Her aid tried to give me the run-around and I threatened

her job. I spoke directly to Ella, and she was hesitant. I reminded her of our conversation and that I was in Washington making sure the State of Connecticut would not loose funds. She had no excuse not to sign the repeal.

I also promised her that, if she didn’t put it in writing, she hadn’t seen anything like the protests to come. She had better put the National Guard on standby. Hey some times you just got to grab the bull by the horns and say, “Fuck it.”

I had one of my people pick up the necessary paper work and deliver it, just in time, as I was called back to the Senate.

I was fired up and on a roll, when the speaker told me, “Reverend Herlihy, you can stop beating a dead horse.” I didn’t stop until he said, “YOU WON It’s Over.”

The national blackmail threat was history and the helmet law repealed in Connecticut, written by Rogue, a true legend!!!

17 year-old Juliane Koepcke was sucked out of an airplane in 1971 after it was struck by a bolt of lightning. She fell 2 miles to the ground, strapped to her seat and survived after she endured 10 days in the Amazon Jungle.

After ten days, she found a boat moored near a shelter, and found the boat’s fuel tank still partly full.
