COGNEX ANNOUNCE EDGE INTELLIGENCE PLATFORM The machine vision giant, which boasts $7 billion in cumulative revenue since the company’s founding in 1981, expands its range of products into the software side of the industry with its Cognex Edge Intelligence (EI) platform. The company says the platform provides barcode reading performance monitoring and device management to help customers prevent downtime and boost the productivity of manufacturing and logistics operations. “Cognex’s machine vision tools and barcode reading systems produce insight-rich data across manufacturing and logistics facilities”, said Carl Gerst, Executive Vice President, Products and Platforms. With EI’s powerful visualization and diagnostics tools, our customers can now use that data to identify performance issues and take corrective action faster”. They report that within a few minutes of installation, the Cognex Edge Intelligence software begins securely collecting critical device data and displaying the results in visual dashboards. Customers can use this data to analyze performance trends, monitor configuration changes, and capture no-read and failed validation images for further analysis. The platform can monitor multiple devices and lines within a single site as well as deploying configurations and firmware updates simultaneously to a large number of connected devices. It also includes audit trail capabilities that track and report any changes to the device settings and connectivity features for easy integration with other Industry 4.0 solutions.

Cognex state the EI is designed to help improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) and increase throughput across a range of industries including logistics, food and beverage, consumer products, packaging, automotive, medical devices, and electronics. Cognex certainly has been busy. The announcement of its Edge Intelligence platform followed the release of its new 3D vision system, the In-Sight® 3D-L4000. This vision system eliminates speckle by using a special laser in the blue light range with the imager seeing a clear laser line, resulting in higher accuracy 3D images. Also, the laser provides its illumination for both 3D and 2D images, eliminating the need for external light. Cognex says the In-Sight® 3D-L4000 camera enables engineers to solve a range of inline inspection, guidance and measurement applications on automated production lines. It’s also so technically advanced and user-friendly, it can be applied to a range of applications in many industries, including food and beverage, consumer products, packaging, automotive, medical devices and electronics. Headquartered in Natick, Massachusetts, USA, with offices and distributors located throughout the Americas, Europe, and Asia; the company have shipped more than 2.3 million image-based products since 1981. Primarily designing, developing, manufacturing, and marketing a wide range of image-based products, all of which use artificial intelligence (AI) techniques, the announcement of the Cognex Edge Intelligence platform could mark a sign of growth for the company in the industry.
