Add to Wide Range of Options at Westerville Community Center

The Westerville Community Center’s adventure fitness course and eSports room are planning a winter open after closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Both parts of the facility will bring added fitness and recreation options to visitors and set the Westerville Community Center apart from its counterparts across the country.

The Westerville Community Center is the first parks and recreation facility in the country to have an adventure fitness component. The area, which includes a climbing net, swing ladder, rings and other interchangeable elements, is available for open play, classes and events and is a fun way to engage in physical activity and boost confidence and focus while participating in friendly competition for all ages.

“The opening of the adventure fitness course will bring an additional fitness and recreation component for our passholders,” said sports program supervisor Derek Milliken . “I believe this area will be popular for birthday parties, youth, teen, adult and senior programs and events, sporting events, fitness events and group outings.”

The new eSports room is one of only a handful of dedicated facilities within parks and recreation agencies across the country. The space is equipped with 13 Dell 5 gaming personal computers, Alienware keyboards and mice and HyperX headsets to provide participants with everything they need. Leagues and programs, computer software and coding classes, along with birthday parties and open play times, are available in the esports space.

“The eSports space at the Community Center is a unique offering among parks and recreation facilities nationally,” sports program manager Dave Pace said. “The room allows participants of all ages the opportunity to challenge themselves with entertaining games but also improve with a wide variety of educational opportunities.”
