CUSTOMER SATISFACTION The Blue Springs Parks & Recreation Department strives to provide the highest quality recreational activities possible. It is the department’s desire that each customer be satisfied with the recreational activities in which they participate. If a customer is not satisfied, corrective efforts will be made. Each specific request or inquiry is reviewed by staff for its own individual circumstances. If necessary, we can arrange for one of the following to occur (full or prorated): repeat the activity at no charge, receive credit that can be applied to any other activity at no charge or receive a refund. Requests for refunds and transfers for departmental programs may be subject to a $5 transfer and $7 refund administrative processing charge. Request for refunds must be made within two weeks following a particular program. The Parks & Recreation Department Office must be notified by the end of the following business day in order to request a refund or transfer of ball field rentals that are rained out. If a program is canceled or session dates and/or times are altered by the Parks & Recreation Department, we will be happy to process a full refund. For ticket sales involving trips or theme park attractions, all sales are final.

MOVIE IN THE PARK Friday, July 22nd • Starts at dusk • Gates open at 6:30PM • Rotary Park • All ages • Free admission A Christmas Carol recounts the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, an elderly miser who is visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come. After their visits, Scrooge is transformed into a kinder, gentler man.

FRIDAY FLICKS AND FOOD TRUCKS Friday, September 9th • Starts at dusk • Gates open at 7PM • Hidden Valley Football Parking Lot • All ages • Free admission Drive to Hidden Valley and enjoy a night out watching The Greatest Showman and delicious meals from some of your favorite food trucks. CHALK THE WALK Saturday, August 20 • Starts at 10AM • Young Park • All ages • $5 per person End the summer at Chalk the Walk! This new event is aimed towards families to come out and create art on the sidewalks of Young Park. The fun starts at 10AM and goes until 12PM. The best drawing will receive a prize! Two prizes will be rewarded. One prize will go to the children’s heat and one to the adults. Artwork will be judged based on the following criteria: Creativity, Space, Quality, and Presentation

RACE TO ESCAPE Saturday, September 17th • Sessions start at 11:30AM • Vesper Hall • Ages 10+ • $15 per person and $90 per team With the help of your team, use puzzles and clues to accomplish a specific task like solving a mystery, or finding a specific object that will aid you in escaping or solving the problem. Clues will be hidden throughout Vesper Hall, this will be half the fun in searching for clues/ puzzles!

WILD MILES Saturday, September 10th • 9AM • Grounds Park • Ages 5-13 • $35 for early registration by August 24th, and $40 late registration after August 24th (no shirt or medal guaranteed for late registration) Why run a boring race when you could run Wild Miles? Kids ages 5-13 complete an obstacle course full of climbing, crawling, swinging, and jumping.

LITTLE LEGENDS VOLLEYBALL Thursday and Saturdays May 12th - June 16th Age 10-11 | 4:30 - 6PM TH. and 9 - 10:30AM SAT. Age 12-13 | 6:15 - 8:45PM TH. and 10:4512:15PM SAT. • Fieldhouse • Ages 10-13 • $150 • Register by May 5th 6-week program where participants meet twice a week: Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. Age groups are split 10-11 years and 12-13 years. This program is designed for those players with prior experience.

These 5 week programs are designed to introduce the basic fundamentals of sports for children ages 3-4 years old. The main goal is to learn the game and have fun building friendships in a non-threatening environment. Equal participation is a guarantee. T-ball will feature three weeks of instructional stations, followed by the final two weeks of organized gameplay. Children must be 3-4 years old at the start time of the program to register. YOUTH SOCCER LEAGUE • Games are at Hidden Valley Sports Complex • $60 for U6, $70 for U7 and U8, and $80 for U9-U13 This is an 8-game season for youth soccer. Divisions range from U6U13. All divisions are coed, and the age cutoff is determined by their birth year. This program allows a wide age range to play recreation soccer. Each participant and coach will receive a shirt and a trophy. Registration deadline is July 18th, and practices begin July 30th. Games begin August 20th.

YOUTH FLAG FOOTBALL LEAGUE • Kindergarten-6th grade • Games are located at Blue Springs Park • $70 for Kindergarten and $80 for 1st-6th grade This Fall, Blue Springs Parks and Rec will be offering a Youth Flag Football League for ages Kindergarten-6th Grade! The league will feature an 8-game season. Registration deadline is August 8th, practices begin August 20th, and games begin September 10th. Each team will be replicated off one of the 32 current NFL teams!

ON THE TRAIL TO FITNESS • April 29th - May 28th • Old Mill Park • 11+ • Tuesdays 5:30 - 6:30PM • Saturdays 7 - 8AM • $7 drop in, $30 for 6 sessions, and $50 for full 12 sessions • Pre- registration required for all sessions Get ready for the summer! A group fitness instructor will lead you through a warm-up, 2-3 mile walk with strength exercises along the way and a cool down stretch at the end. This is a great way to exercise and socialize! Class will meet twice a week, Tuesday and Saturday. Unable to make it to all sessions? Try our drop in rate for the classes you can make.

YOGA IN THE PARK • Third Saturdays at 7:30AM • April - September • All sessions besides the first will be held at Rotary Park • First session held at the Get Outdoors event • FREE Your weekend relaxation starts here with Yoga in the Park! Our Fieldhouse instructor Kelly will lead you through a series of poses designed to improve balance, flexibility, and breathing. Yoga practice begins at 7:30am. Please bring a towel or yoga mat, and wear comfortable clothing. Class will meet the 3rd Saturday of each month, May – September. The first session will meet at Grounds Park as part of the Get Outdoors event, April 23rd at 11AM and 1PM. All other sessions will meet at Rotary Park.

League is 6 game guarantees. Overall champion receives champion t-shirts. Teams will play coed recreational, 6v6. League will run on Wednesday nights from 6:00 - 9:00pm. PICKLEBALL LEAGUE • 5:30 PM on Sunday’s • Ward Park • $40/team • Register by June 19 2v2 play with teams being either coed or same gender. Teams will play five consecutive Sunday evenings to determine their seeding for an end of the season tournament. This league will last 6 consecutive Sundays. All equipment is provided, you are more than welcome to use your own paddle. Registration deadline is June 20th. Games begin June 26th.

Vesper Hall is a nationally accredited Community Center that offers a variety of activities for individuals ages 50 and up that like to stay social, healthy and active.

HOME-DELIVERED MEALS

Served Monday - Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 12: 30 p.m. A $3.50 donation is suggested for ages 60 and up and for those who are disabled. A fee of $5.75 is required for age 59 and younger. Reservations must be made at least one day prior to guarantee a meal. Cancellations must be made prior to day of reservation.

Available for home-bound individuals in Blue Springs and Lake Tapawingo who are 60 years and older or disabled persons age 18-59. Meals are delivered Monday-Friday and a $3.50 donation is suggested. Contact Vesper Hall to receive more information. Meals programs are cosponsored by Mid-America Regional Council. Federal funds assist in the cost of meal planning and preparation.

TRANSPORTATION SERVICES The City of Blue Springs offers transportation services for residents 60 years and older and adults with disabilities ages 18-59. The City contracts with OATS Transportation Services for medical and/or shopping trips within Blue Springs. Door-to-door pick-up and return to Vesper Hall 50-Plus Community Center for lunch is co-sponsored by MidAmerica Regional Council. Buses can accommodate up to two wheel chairs and nine other passengers.

YOGA Certified instructor will customize the class to each individual. New students (with fitness experience) welcome! Students will do various floor and standing poses. Six week sessions. Preregister. Tuesday/Thursday 1 - 2PM. Cost is $38 for two classes per week for six weeks or $20 for one class per week for six weeks. $5 drop in fee.
