Long-Time Pediatric Office Re-Imagines Empty Restaurant Space

Ever since Golden Corral at 1203 SW State Rt 7 in Blue Springs closed it's doors several years ago, residents have been wondering what will take it's place. That question has finally been answered thanks to Cockerell McIntosh Pediatrics, which opened its office doors in the newly renovated space in the Summer of 2021. And while the outside improvements certainly improve the curb appeal, it's the inside of the office that makes this redevelopment project special. Dr. Charles Cockerell wanted the interior of his newest office to be whimsical. As soon as they step through the doors, patients and their parents are immediately transported into an enchanted forest. Every single inch of the waiting room walls are covered in a mural depicting forest scenes. There are two indoor play areas modeled to look like a cave and a tree house respectively– Dr. Cockerell designed the play areas himself building small dioramas with cardboard and packing tape to show his architect. Cockerell McIntosh Pediatrics has been a part of the Eastern Jackson County community for decades, established in 1950 as his father's practice. He and his sister, Dr. Michele McIntosh, took over in 1988.
