inemas, movie theatres, picture houses. Whatever you call them, they’ve been a key part of the local high street since soon after their invention, moving from fairground side stalls to fully established entertainment venues in their own right.
Initially, cinemas were little more than converted shops, but as they gained popularity they became the grand buildings we know today.
