T
he two Italian projects presented this year at Alliance 4 Development, the co-development program of Locarno Pro dedicated to projects from France, Austria, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland, might be shot in the Italian-speaking region of Switzerland, Ticino. These projects are Ithaca by Alessandro Grande, produced by Alessandro Amato and Luigi Chimienti for dispárte, and From Planet Earth by Luca Magi, produced by Claudio Giapponesi for Kiné Società Cooperativa. The first project won the Ticino Film Commission Residency Award, which includes location scouting and a letter of intent for incentives (up to 12k CHF) if the scouting is successful. The second project was also presented at the fourth edition of the Pitching Day, organized by the Ticino Film Commission at the Leventina Museum in Giornico in collaboration with Locarno Pro and with the support of Ticino Turismo and the Regional Tourist Organization Bellinzona and Valli. In From Planet Earth, a mountain hotel serving as a refuge for foreign minors will be the setting for the first part of the film. From here, Alì, a young African migrant who appeared out of nowhere on the outskirts of a large city, embarks on an initiatory journey.

The project marks the fictional evolution of Magi's previous documentary film Stories of the Half-Light, awarded at Visions du Réel and produced by Kiné. “Working on the idea of the borders, we would like to find a co-producer from a country bordering Italy,” explains Giapponesi. One of the projects comes from Zurich, thanks to the collaboration with the Zurich Film Commission: it is Ibex by Carlo Beer, produced by Sophia Rubischung for Filmgeberei. A western with dark humor, fantasy and horror elements which aims to be “a threepart co-production between Switzerland (50-70%), Austria, and Italy.", as the producer explains. The project has already received support from the Zurich Film Stiftung, "the largest regional fund in Switzerland," said its director, Julia Krättli. Strengthening collaboration with other Swiss film commissions is one of the strategic objectives of the Ticino Film Commission, which celebrated its 10th anniversary at Locarno this year. Niccolò

Potrebbero essere ambientati in Ticino i due progetti italiani presentati quest’anno ad Alliance 4 Development il programma di co-sviluppo di Locarno Pro dedicato a progetti provenienti da Francia Austria Germania Italia e Svizzera. Ithaca di Alessandro Grande, prodotto da Alessandro Amato e Luigi Chimienti per dispárte e Dal Pianeta Terra di Luca Magi prodotto da Claudio Giapponesi per Kiné Società Cooperativa. Il primo si è aggiudicato il Ticino Film Commission Residency Award, consistente in un location scouting e in una lettera d’intenti per incentivi (fino a 12.000 franchi) se lo scout andrà a buon fine. Il secondo è stato presentato anche alla quarta edizione del Pitching Day che Ticino Film Commission ha organizzato a Giornico, negli spazi del Museo della Leventina, in collaborazione con Locarno Pro e con il supporto di Ticino Turismo e l’Organizzazione Turistica Regionale Bellinzona e Valli. In Dal Pianeta Terra, un albergo di montagna sarà l’ambientazione della prima parte del film: un rifugio per minori stranieri, da cui parte il viaggio iniziatico di Alì, un ragazzo migrante africano, apparso dal nulla alla periferia di una grande città. From Ticino comes Manuel Perrone's debut film, The Last Supper, a grotesque comedy produced by Nicola Bernasconi (Rough Cat). The film will also be shot in Italy in co-production with Indyca. Another Ticino producer attached to the film is Michela Pini's Cineddoké, which is also producing another of the projects presented: Grave by Anna Pieri Zuercher, a black action comedy coproduced with the Nordics. After Lions, the debut film of Luganobased Enea Zucchetti is another story revolving around a Ticino location, a fort on Monte Ceneri. The film is selected for the second phase of the Locarno Residency, which includes a year-long mentorship program and the chance to win a prize of 5k CHF during Locarno 78.

Un western rivisitato con humor nero, elementi fantastici e horror che, spiega la produttrice, “vorremmo realizzare come una co-produzione tripartita fra Svizzera (da cui contiamo di ottenere fra il 50 e il 70% dei fondi), Austria e Italia.” Il progetto ha già ricevuto il sostegno del Zurich Film Stiftung, “il più consistente fondo regionale in Svizzero” ha detto la sua direttrice, Julia Krättli. Rafforzare la collaborazione con le altre film commissions elvetiche è uno degli obiettivi strategici di Ticino Film Commission, che quest’anno a Locarno ha festeggiato il suo decimo anniversario. Lo ha ribadito il direttore di TFC, Niccolò Castelli, in apertura dell’evento, a cui hanno preso parte, oltre al Fondo di Zurigo, anche Valais Film Commission e Central Schweiz Film Commission. Dal Ticino arriva l’opera prima di Manuel Perrone, The Last Supper, commedia grottesca prodotta da Nicola Bernasconi (Rough Cat), che sarà girata anche in Italia, in co-produzione con Indyca. Altro produttore ticinese del film è Cineddoké di Michela Pini, che produce anche un altro dei progetti presentati: Grave di Anna Pieri Zuercher, commedia nera d’azione in co-produzione con i paesi nordici. Un’altra storia che ruota attorno ad una location ticinese, un fortino sul Monte Ceneri, è After Lions, opera prima del luganese Enea Zucchetti, selezionata per la seconda fase della Locarno Residency, che consiste in un percorso di tutoraggio di un anno, e nella possibilità di vincere un premio di 5000 franchi che sarà assegnato durante Locarno 78.
