In the Directors' Fortnight, Song Without a Name, a debut feature by peruvian Melina León co-produced by spanish MGC, takes part. With sales managed by Luxbox, it is set in the late 80s in Peru, during the rise of the Shining Path communist organization. Also in the Fortnight, but in the shorts' section, a spanish work has been selected: Je te tiens by Sergio Caballero (Finisterrae). Produced by Advanced Music, the short film reflects a car journey through unnerving worlds while a mother tries to convince a daughter not to commit suicide. Apart from that, it 's also worth mentioning that at the Cannes Classics the spanish Luis Buñuel receives an special tribute in the form of three screenings of films that have been restored: Los Olvidados (1950), Nazarín (1958) and The Golden Age (1930) . 60 YEARS OF MARCHÉ DU FILM
Marché du Film, the market that is carried out alongside the Cannes Film Festival, turns 60. In the exhibition area of this year, the Cinema from Spain pavilion, coorganized by ICEX and ICAA, with the support of the Economic and Commercial Office of Spain in Paris, has as participating exhibitors Latido Films, Cinema Republic, Film Factory, Kopy Films, Basque Audiovisual, The Film Agency, Spain Film Commission, Film Madrid, Andalucía Film Commission and Canary Islands Film. Filmax and Catalan Films are attending with their own booths. Within the Cinema from Spain umbrella more than 50 companies are participating and, as usual, there are several soanish market screenings, such as Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles, Fire Will Come, Double plus fifteen, Some Time Later, Taxi to Gibraltar, The Weasel's Tale, Bikes, The Pact, Love Me Not, Remember Me, Elcano and Magellan.The First Voyage Around the World, Abuelos, The (Silent) War, Under the Same Roof, 4x4, Perdiendo el este, The Lunnis and the Great Fairy Tales Adventure, The Sharks, Mylove Lost, H0us3, The Accordionist's Son, Litus, Get Her... Producers on the Move, European Film Promotion (EFP) initiative that brings together 20 emerging European producers, celebrates its 20th anniversary. Carles Torras is the Spanish representative, following Luis Romeo (Frida Films). His company, Zabriskie Films, is based in Barcelona and has produced features such as Callback, which received the Gold Biznaga in Málaga 2016, or the documentary American Jesus. Among his next projects are The Paramedic, American Satan and the TV series The Invasion. After two years without spanish representation, the Cinefondation's Atelier will once again have a spanish project. The 15th edition of this event dedicated to the promotion of projects' development integrates Sinjar by Anna M. Bofarull (Sonata for Cello). The production company KaBoGa has found as a partner Apostrophe Films, producer of Morocco, where part of the film is shot. The project tells the story of three women in the context of the situation of the Yazidi minority in Iraqi Kurdistan.
With the goal of strengthening the presence of animation in Cannes, Marché du Film has decided to collaboSinjar rate with the Annecy Festival to create the Animation Day taking place on Sunday, May 19th. In addition to the round table 'The A-Z game plan to releasing adult animated films for the big screen', the pitchings of the Annecy Goes to Cannes program stand out. One of the presentations is Dragonkeeper, an ambitious co-production between Spain (Dragoia Media) and China (China Film Animation), with the participation of Atresmedia and Movistar +. Directed by Ignacio Ferreras (Wrinkles) and Jian-Ping Li, the film is based on the first novel of the homonymous book saga by Carole Wilkinson, set in a magical and epic China during the Han Dynasty. The Marché has also partnered with the Sitges Festival to create Fantastic 7, a film forum aimed at fostering talent within the genre industry and whose first edition, to be held on Sunday, May 19, is endorsed by J.A.
