June 17th, 1957 Article By Pappy
This is 2021,Then it was June 17th 1957. I'm 11 yrs. old, live on a big farm, been welding for 3yrs. I can re-build starter, Generators & Carbs, and today is PAY DAY. So heading into town, on the way I saw Elie Brown out by his barn. It's the first time I ever saw it open. His wife "Ma" Brown was chewing his ass out for it being a shit hole, but I had the hots for Missy, his Grand Daughter,(cute). Anyway I voluntered to clean out the barn for him,he was a lazy dude, So he jumped on the offer. I got to keep what I wanted. In the back I saw a Head light, wheel and front fender. Me and a couple of Buddy's hauled 2 loads to the dump. I had a Farmall CUB & trailer. One load went to the junk shop in town, that got us $23! WOO-HOO!! And took everything elsse home including a 1947 Coshnan Scooter,no it did not run, but got the Title to it from "Ma" Brown. Cleaned the Carb and Gas tank out, New points and it started the third kick! Also needed tires "DRY ROT", There went the $23 bucks! Now in 1957,if you weren't to stupid, you could ride the back roads around "Farmville USA". I never out rode myself or the scooter, even rode to school. 7th Grade had to park accross the street at Scuddars Orchard OH! It had a 1953 Plate on it. Now school is out so it's summertime. Lucky Hogen had a Cushman Eagle. Ted Book had a Harly Hummer. There was a Lamb Bretta in there somewhere & me. Now in town was the"snack bar",Show House, Pool Hall & Bowling Ally. 15 cent games, hot dogs, sun drops and Girls. Girls like anything that has two wheels and they like us and the Gravel Pit or a Spring Fed Lake, and skinny dippin allowed! (Some stories will never be told)
See Ya Next Month!
