Liberals choose candidate for federal election THE Liberal Party have preselected a candidate to run in the seat of Isaacs at next year’s federal election. Former Bridge Hotel operator Robbie Beaton has been chosen to contest the seat currently held by Labor MP Mark Dreyfus. Mr Beaton was preselected at a party meeting last month. He operated Mordialloc’s Bridge Hotel for more than twenty years before it was sold earlier this year. Mr Beaton said he was “honoured to stand as the Liberal Party’s candidate in Isaacs, and to use this opportunity to make our community’s voice heard.” “With my lived experience running a small business and raising a family, with my knowledge of the local area and the challenges faced by our communities, I stand ready to give Isaacs the representation it deserves,” he said. “Anyone who runs a business knows that a strong economy, low taxes and low interest rates are vital to local businesses thriving and flourishing, creating local jobs and ensuring our families can put food on the table and pay the bills. If elected, I will strive every day to support the hard-working people of Isaacs.” The Isaacs electorate encompasses Mordialloc, Keysborough, Waterways, Cheltenham, Dingley Village, Chelsea, Aspendale, Aspendale Gardens, Edithvale, Bonbeach, Patterson Lakes, Carrum, Parkdale, Mentone, Dandenong South, Highett, Heatherton, and Moorabbin. Current Isaacs MP Mark Dreyfus was re-elected in 2018 with an improved margin of 6.43 per cent. In 2018, the Liberals’ campaign in Isaacs imploded when candidate Jeremy Hearn was disendorsed over anti-Muslim posts he had made online. The Liberals last held Isaacs in 1996.

Big attraction a thing of pure imagination IN Ballina you’ll find the Big Prawn, on the Sunshine Coast you’ll find the Big Pineapple, and now in Carrum Downs you’ll find a big chocolate bar. Chocolate Grove in Carrum Downs unveiled its big attraction at an event last week. The big block of chocolate was the brainchild of chief chocolatier Will Muddyman. “I’ve always had this idea of building a BIG chocolate bar to promote our chocolate shop and business here in Carrum Downs. Great care and attention to detail has gone into making it as authentic as possible, so it becomes a tourist drawcard, an icon, gravitating travellers to the Frankston area,” Mr Muddyman said. The project was completed with the help of local blacksmith Tony Mardling. See the big chocolate bar at 48 - 50 Aster Avenue, Carrum Downs.
