Residents can recycle food waste their waste. Scraps that can be recycled include meat, fish, bones, cooked food, and dairy products. Kingston Council estimates that food waste made up about half of all household waste which was usually sent to landfill. The recycled scraps will now be sent to a commercial facility in Dandenong South where it will be turned into compost. The compost will be used on soil in farms, parks, and gardens.
CADDYS and free bin liners are being delivered to local households as part of Kingston Council’s rollout of food waste recycling. Food waste recycling in the Kingston municipality got up and running last month. Residents can now put food waste in their green bin along with their garden waste. Last week residents began receiving caddies and compostable bin liners for their kitchens to help them separate
Residents without a green bin can call council on 1300 653 356 to order one. More information at kingston. vic.gov.au/foodwaste.

Minister removal Covid case at clinic DISABILITY service provider in won’t change law AChelsea has shut its doors after a client tested positive for COVID-19. Brodie Cowburn brodie@baysidenews.com.au THE removal of local government minister Adem Somyurek won’t have an effect on changes made when the new Local Government Act was passed in March this year. The passage of the act mandated changes to single member wards for most Victorian councils. Kingston Council will change to single member wards at the October election this year. Premier Daniel Andrews said on 15 June that decisions made by Mr Somyurek while he was local government minister would not be reviewed. “The minister has taken forward positions endorsed by cabinet. He has made a number of different decisions pursuant to his role as minister. I am not aware of any reason to go back over those or to be concerned about those,” Mr Andrews said. The change to single member wards had been met with opposition. Victorian Greens leader Samantha Ratnam said the move “will increase the likelihood that councils are controlled entirely by major parties and that decision making is dominated by ward interests over the common good of the council area (“Council changes may hurt small parties and independents”, The News, 29/4/19)”. Mr Somyurek was sacked from the state government cabinet following a 60 Minutes report which made allegations of branch stacking and derogatory behaviour.
The state government confirmed on 10 June that one case had been reported from a client at Scope Disability’s day service centre in Chelsea. The centre was shut down for cleaning. “All close contacts of the client, including staff members and clients of the facility, are being tested and required to quarantine,” the state government’s media release said. The centre was required to remain closed until 11 June.
