INTERIOR DESIGNER:
Andrea Dussault STRIPED LEMON DESIGN
What makes this project unique? This stunning condominium on Daniel Island features 12-foot ceilings with intricate trim work. Seizing the opportunity to make a bold statement, we decided to color drench the entire room including the ceiling, trim, doors, and built-ins in Benjamin Moore’s Breath of Fresh Air. Ironically, I was selected for this project to bring a fresh new design.
What challenges did you face? With a small room that had no windows and three doors, we knew the design needed to be bright and impactful to prevent the space from feeling cramped or cluttered. While we usually rely on introducing color and pattern through fabric with window treatments, the absence of windows here led us to incorporate custom fabric pieces with the pillows and coffee table.
How did you incorporate the client’s personal style? My client’s home beautifully reflects her style and personality, but she was unsure how to design the room off the foyer. The calm, sophisticated atmosphere and soft color palette with traditional and coastal accents made it easy to design her sitting room. Her desire for a fun space gave us the creative freedom to create a bold and inviting area.
Describe the furnishings and finishes. We introduced a beautiful new navy blue grasscloth credenza to anchor the room, and added visual interest with lamps, accessories, and artwork. The coffee table cushion was custom made in white performance fabric with green welting, which adds versatility to use as a table or ottoman. Updating the built-ins with brushed brass pulls helped integrate the gold tones from the wallpaper. The rattan mirror adds texture, while the flanking sconces provide extra light.
