SESSION 2 Workshops 1:15 p.m. BRUCE T. GOURLEY Managing Editor of Publications Good Faith Media

ROOM F-102

Understanding and Responding to Christian Nationalism White Christian Nationalism, in modern times evidenced most vividly during the January 6 Capitol insurrection, is a little understood but existentially dangerous ideology and movement that threatens to tear apart American Christianity and democracy alike. Christian Nationalism is not “Christian” in the sense of adhering to Jesus’ inclusive life and teachings. Rather it is a political-oriented quest for dominion over “others” in the name of “God” that actively encourages division, violence and even terrorism in service of an authoritarian “Kingdom of God” on earth. This breakout session will provide a basic understanding of Christian Nationalism — including historical context — examine the current state of the movement and ideology, and suggest responses on the part of churches, clergy, laity and citizens.
