Every year, we hold a Parish Feast Day Celebration to honor our patron saint, St. Michael. A time to celebrate with the community, it is filled with stewardship opportunities for people of all ages. This year, the celebration’s theme is “Let Us Come Together and Celebrate!” This is especially appropriate, as it will be the first time in two years that we are able to fully gather together to celebrate. “It is just a fun event that involves the entire parish,” shares Tina Millwood, Co-Lead for the Feast Day Celebration. “It gives you a Our Parish Feast Day Celebration Saturday, September 17 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM Let Us Come Together and Celebrate! “Truly, volunteering and getting involved allows you to meet others and give to each other in a fun and relaxing environment,” Tina says. “It lets you be closer to the Church and, the ultimate purpose, to become a more giving person. We need to remember that giving is not just about giving your treasure, but also sharing your talents and your time with others.”
Many volunteers are needed to make this event a success, from selling food and raffle tickets after Mass, to helping with curbside delivery, setting up and managing the games, serving food, and cleaning up.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Greetings and prayerful blessings to you, from Fr. Balaji Boyalla! No matter your situation in life, chances are there is someone out there who has more than you do. Too often, we may hesitate to follow stewardship as a way of life because we are waiting for someone more blessed than we are to show us the way. You may be aware that the Scripture readings we hear at each Mass are part of a three-year cycle. In general, the Gospel passages in Cycle A are from Matthew; Cycle B is principally Mark; and Cycle C, the year we are now in, is primarily from Luke. John is mixed in and especially used during Lent. We are in what might be called a “Luke year.” As we hear the Gospels from Luke, we need to be acutely aware of the stewardship messages found there. In one recent Gospel passage from Luke, Jesus uses a parable to remind us of an important stewardship lesson. He precedes the parable by reminding us all, “Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.” (Luke 12:15) You and I both know that God does not judge us based upon what we may have accumulated during our lifetimes, but based upon how we lived those lives, and especially how we used those gifts — those possessions. The parable focuses on a “rich man” who builds larger grain bins to store his abundant harvests. God calls the man a fool and reminds him that growing rich for himself is not as important as growing rich in the sight of God. The very next week (the 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time), Luke again tells us how Jesus warns and cautions His disciples — “For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.” (Luke 12:34) The Lord warns them that they do not know what day or what hour He will return and summarizes it all with another important insight into what is expected of us — “Much will be required of the person entrusted with much, and still more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more.” (Luke 12:48) You see, we are not “off the hook” if someone else has more gifts but fails to use them well. Stewardship demands that each of us use our gifts, and each of us is gifted, whether we want to admit it or not, to serve God and others. Luke’s implied stewardship messages come full circle in the Gospel reading on August 21 — “For behold, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last.” (Luke 13:30) That admonition from the Lord has always seemed a bit confusing. It says that to be first, we need to be last, and if we are first, we may be last. I think all these messages, including the first and last one, are cautions to us that we cannot be complacent, and we cannot take salvation and holiness for granted. We need to work on them. We are not measured by our possessions; God indeed does expect a lot of us, no matter how small or extensive our gifts may be. Regardless of how holy we may strive to be, it is God who will judge; it is by ¡Saludos, oraciones y bendiciones para ustedes del Padre Balaji Boyalla!
A Letter From Our Pastor Una Carta de Nuestro Pastor 3
While St. Joseph was significantly smaller than St. Michael, Emily believes the parishes are similar in some ways. “I am excited to experience being part of a bigger faith community,” Emily says. “St. Joseph’s was culturally diverse, and we celebrated Mass every Sunday in English, Spanish and Burmese. It is a very spirit-filled parish, so from what I can tell thus far, St. Michael is similar in that regard.”Inher new position at St. Michael, Emily will be working with youth and young adults from 6th through 12th grade. She will also be working with sacrament preparation for the RCIA adapted and Confirmation youth and families.“I’mlooking forward to working with others from the faith community to make the youth and young adult programs as family oriented as possible,” Emily says. In her free time, Emily enjoys running, reading about the saints, and exploring church documents. “I’m learning guitar, and while I’m not good enough yet to do music ministry, I would love to eventually do that,” Emily says. “I also love hosting people and spending time with my loved ones.”
“I want to be the person I needed at that age, and to help young people in their relationship with Jesus,” Emily says. “I am so excited to get started and meet everyone. Let us run towards Jesus together!”

Welcoming New Youth Minister Emily Cutshall “Let us Run Towards Jesus Together!”
W hen Emily Cutshall first started college at the Franciscan University of Steubenville, she intended to pursue a degree in pre-law, but at Franciscan, immersed herself in theology classes and felt a different calling. “The Holy Spirit was tugging at the strings of my heart,” Emily says. “I’ve always wanted to be actively involved in the Church, and I felt called to give my life to God and the Church in this way.”
This July, Emily began her position as the Youth Minister at St. Michael. It is an answer to prayers for Emily who graduated from Franciscan in May with a bachelor’s in theology and catechetics.“Iwasreally wanting to move to the DFW area and was searching for a position with the Catholic Church,” Emily says. “The Lord just led me to St. Michael. I am so glad that this worked out because it seems like such a great fit for me.”
Emily is looking forward to serving the Church and faith community at St. Michael and working with youth and young adults in the DFW area.

Emily Cutshall
Emily hails from Battle Creek, Mich., a city in southwest Michigan, where she belonged to St. Joseph parish, at which she was highly active when growing up. “I was heavily involved in youth ministry in high school and college,” Emily says. “I did youth conferences and mission trips. I went to Catholic HEART Workcamp every year during the summer from eighth grade through graduating high school, and service was instrumental in my calling.”

“Dios me trajo a St. Michael.

Amid all these magnificent stewardship messages, we celebrate the Assumption of our Blessed Mother on August 15 — “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my Savior for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.” (Luke 1:46-48) As I celebrate Mass for the Feast of Assumption, I will remember you in a distinct way on the Altar of the Lord. You are truly in my prayers. God bless you and keep you always.
2022 “Me Invitaste a Pasar.”
Before the stewardship way of life can totally transform our parish, it must begin in each of our hearts. As each individuals’ spiritual life blossoms and grows, so will our parish as a whole. Will you plant the seed of stewardship in your own heart?
Clearlywritethefirstnameoffamilymemberontheline.
Commitment Weekend is October 22-23. Do not forget to bring your Commitment Card to Mass! Is your prayer life in need of a tune-up? Honestly, ask yourself, “How much time do I spend in prayer each week?” The answer is probably a bit embarrassing. Everyone wants to spend more time in prayer, but there is just never enough time to do everything we want to do. Good intentions are just that: intentions. This year, as you are discerning how you will offer your time to God, resolve to follow through with your commitments. Consider each moment that you spend in prayer as nourishment for your soul. The spiritual health of our parish is only as strong as the sum of its parts (individual parishioners). Is your level of parish involvement in need of a boost? Ministries give parishioners opportunities to serve others in the community, but they also benefit those in the ministry itself. Ask anyone who actively participates in a ministry at St. Michael, “Why do you enjoy serving in this way?” They will probably say, “I get more out of the ministry than the people I serve.” This year, as you are discerning how you will offer your talents to God, consider signing up for a ministry that may benefit you, like a Bible study, prayer group, or retreat. You can also contribute to an outreach ministry where your good deeds not only help others in the community, but also give you feelings of satisfaction and thankfulness. Do you give a percentage of your income to the offertory? Adding a weekly offertory check to the list of monthly bills may seem crazy but, ultimately, sacrificial giving forces us to cut unnecessary spending, create a budget and have faith that God will help us make it through the month. All of these are good things for each of us, individually. After faithfully giving to the offertory for a few months, many Catholics find that it is not only possible to give a weekly offering, but that the fruits of their gift far outweigh the expense.

God’s Own Children: New Ministry Serving Special Needs in Our Parish Family
7 continued on back cover continúa en la contraportada H ere at St. Michael, we have always provided catechesis and sacramental preparation to everyone in our parish community. Recently, we have begun a new ministry for those among our parish with various disabilities. This ministry is a collaborative effort between our Formation and Outreach departments. Aptly named “God’s Own Children,” this new ministry began due to conversations with parish families and catechists. The ministry offers connection, faith sharing, fellowship and once a month Mass for those with various special needs and their families. One of our Catechists, Caryn Abbott, provides catechesis to children with various degrees of adaptation for special needs. A few years ago, Caryn suggested “We find a way to develop a ministry of faith sharing and support for the families of students with special needs,” Robin Harris, Director of Faith Formation. Conversations with several other parishioners especially Sandy Steves, Liliana Dominguez & Jaime Rueda. From these conversations, the parish staff and families developed a plan that was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Conversations continued however, and in February of this year, the ministry moved past conversation and was established.“Fr.Balaji Boyalla is supportive of this ministry,” Robin says. “The ministry name chosen, “ God’s Own Children ,” was given by Fr. Balaji because we are all children of God who are loved, created, and made in the image and likeness of God, our Creator and Father.” Among the ministry’s goals is to offer a monthly Mass for persons with disabilities, as well as offering fellowship, faith sharing, and encouragement to participate in parish and community life. The ministry seeks to serve those of all ages, as well as family members of those with disabilities. It is a splendid example of stewardship happening within our parish community.“Thisministry will function as a conduit and connection for our parish life and local community,” Robin says.
