Adoration: The Best Time You Will Spend On Earth
Ever since Maria Burt became a member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society in 2014, the Lord has worked marvels in her life, revealing Himself to her in intimate, life-changing ways.
“The Nocturnal Adoration Society only has adoration once a month, and I loved going so much that I could hardly wait a whole month to go again,” she says. “At one point, I had an overwhelming feeling that God was really, truly present in adoration. It struck me that the same Jesus that was once walking on the earth in Jerusalem was also actually there in the Eucharist. Once I realized this, I just couldn’t stop going.”

One good thing led to another good thing, and Maria soon began finding every opportunity she could to meet Our Lord in adoration.
“I started going to adoration regularly at the Monastery of the Infant Jesus in Lufkin as well,” she says. “Soon after that, Fr. Denzil Vithanage began exposing Our Lord in adoration at our parish, and he wanted people to sign up to cover hours, so I began coming.”
Looking back, Maria is deeply grateful that she accepted Christ’s merciful invitation to spend quality time with Him in the Blessed Sacrament whenever she can.
“Adoration is everything to me,” she says. “I now go every single morning! It gives me so much joy and peace to get through the day. It is hard to even put into words what I receive from Jesus in adoration. It is such a privilege for me to kneel in front of Our Lord, the King of the Universe. There really aren’t even words to explain it. In adoration, He looks right at you and speaks to you. It is such a blessing, and it gives so much hope to the world.”
Currently, adoration is offered at our parish from about 8 a.m. until 7 p.m., and is mainly coordinated by Fr. Denzil, along with the help of Maria Burt and Maribel Olivares.
“We are doing very well and all of the hours are covered with two people taking each hour,” Maria says. “However, we are really looking for people to commit to pray for an hour any time between 6 and 9 p.m. Our goal is to hopefully have perpetual adoration in the future.”
