You can register for programs in one of two ways: online at www.carson.org/ccpr or by visiting the MAC, Carson Aquatic Facility, or Community Center (between 2:30pm6:30pm).

If you see this symbol, it means it is a brand new program that we have not offered before. Sign up, enjoy, then tell us what you think. We are always trying to improve our programs and offer new experiences to the community.

CANCELATION/REFUND POLICY

Refunds will be given only when a program is canceled by the Parks and Recreation Department. Canceled contract class refunds will be the responsibility of the instructor. Refunds requested for any other reason will be determined at the discretion of management and may be subject to a 10% processing fee. Refunds may take 2-3 weeks to process.

By attending any Carson City Parks and Recreation program or event, you understand that a photo of you or your family may be taken and may be used in future marketing materials. Names are not published without permission granted by the participant or the participant’s parent or guardian. If you do not wish to have your photo taken, please notify the photographer or program supervisor.

Aquatic Programs

AQUACIZE

Aquacize is a co-ed water exercise program for adults of all ages, in a friendly, energetic atmosphere. Swimming skills are not required. No music is used so the pace is relaxed. This low-impact, water exercise program will tone muscles of all parts of the body with less stress on muscles. Classes are one hour long. Drop-ins welcome.

ASD SWIM LESSONS

Inclusive lessons for individuals on the Autism Spectrum or other special needs requiring additional attention. All abilities are welcome. Classes are designed to have a maximum of 3:1 ratio and help participants learn how to be water safe. This is a drop-in program so come and try it out. Days and times may change due to instructor availability.

Ages 3-14

This class is designed to increase mobility and range of motion through a series of gentle, head-to-toe exercises in the 92 degree Adult Therapy Pool. These exercises are extremely low impact and are perfect for those with arthritis or who are recovering from surgery or injury. If physical limitations, injuries, joint pain, or stiffness limit your mobility and/or exercising options, this class might be just what you need. Swimming skills not required. Exercises are not cardiovascular in nature.

Making the water fun for your guppy is the most important step in preparing for swim lessons. This class is designed to acquaint adult and child with play activities and to teach some very basic fundamental skills. The course is parent-driven, under the supervision of an instructor. Ever wanted to learn how to kayak, or to keep up with your skills during the off-season? The Carson Aquatic Facility is opening its doors to kayakers. This is a drop-in program and no instruction is provided. Please clean your kayak before entering the facility, or ask staff for access to a hose.

RED CROSS LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION

Get trained as a lifeguard today! Red Cross Lifeguard Certification is a good way to seek lifeguard employment at facilities across the country, or just take the class to learn valuable skills in lifesaving, first aid, and CPR. Participants must be able to pass a pre skills swim test. The course is a blended learning program, where some course work will be online at home and the rest will be in person.

The Carson City Aquatic Facility is partnering with Carson Animal Services Initiative (CASI) to offer an aquatic adventure for your pups! Pets must be at least 6 months old, current on vaccinations, and friendly around other dogs that are in season. Tennis balls, extra towels and dog treats are provided. CARSON TIGERSHARKS COMPETITIVE SWIM PROGRAM

League swimming is the best way to be introduced to the sport of swimming without the high commitment of an elite club. Leagues run on a seasonal basis, and competitions are short and fun, typically running 2-3 hours. The Carson Tigersharks emphasize stroke technique, racing, and friendships for junior swimmers (aged 5-12) and senior swimmers (aged 13-18). ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: One 25yd length of front crawl, one 25yd length of back crawl, comfortable in deep water. The Splash Pad is located in McFadden Plaza, off Carson Street, across from the Nevada State Legislature. The Splash Pad is free and open to the public.

The Movers & Doers program provides recreational experiences for individuals of all abilities and their families. Activities are designed to contribute to the physical, mental, social, emotional growth, and development of all individuals. FALL BOWLING LEAGUE

Bowling is a great way to meet new friends, stay active and participate in a weekly league. Bowlers will get the chance receive a Movers and Doers Bowling shirt, play 2 games of bowling, and receive shoes while bowling, if needed. Join the fun starting September 9, 2024.

GOAL GETTERS JOG AND WALK PROGRAM

The Goal Getters Jog & Walk program is a great way to beat the winter breeze and get your body moving. Each week participants will jog & walk at the Carson City MAC indoor track. Every lap a participant completes will be accounted for and the distance will be measured at the end of each session. As a team of Goal Getters participants will set out to go the distance.

NEVADA STATE RAILROAD MUSEUM

All aboard! Join us as we visit the Nevada State Railroad Museum where we can view locomotives, rolling stock, artifacts, photographs, and memorabilia directly related to railroads and railroading in Nevada. In addition to static exhibits, select pieces of equipment in the collection are restored and operated throughout the year to demonstrate steam and early gasoline technology and provide visitors with a first-hand experience with railroad history through the sights, sounds and sensations of a train ride.

YOUTH COED VOLLEYBALL INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAM

This is an introductory instructional program to the sport of volleyball. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the basics of the sport from Carson City Recreation staff over 10 - one-hour long sessions This program is open to all skill levels. Registration August 1 - October 2.

LITTLE SENATORS INSTRUCTIONAL

BASKETBALL

This is a great instructional program for boys and girls who are in 1st or 2nd grade. Experience is not necessary to join this program as this program is designed to teach children the proper fundamentals of basketball. Participants will practice dribbling, passing, defensive positions, and proper shooting techniques. Includes 10 sessions and a basketball to keep. Registration October 1- November 22. Carson City Parks & Recreation uniforms are required, past seasons uniforms maybe used.

YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE

The youth basketball program provides players the opportunity to develop basic skills, team play and sportsmanship. Teams are grouped by ability through our “warmups”. “Warmup” dates can be seen at www.carson.org/sports. All players are required to play a minimum amount of playing time in each game. Games are played at the MAC, Community Center and Middle Schools. Practices begin in December and games will begin in January. PRACTICE TIMES AND GAME TIMES VARY. VOLUNTEER COACHES NEEDED! Must be at least 18 and be able to pass a background check! Registration October 1November 22. Carson City Parks & Recreation uniforms are required, past seasons uniforms maybe used.

PARENT’S NIGHT OUT

Parents, do you need a night out? Parents Night Out is a way for you to enjoy a night out without your kids. Our dedicated Capital Kids staff will be providing child care (K5th) for parents who would like a night to themselves. We will be providing pizza, activities, and a movie for kids to enjoy! Hurry and sign up as there are limited spaces available.

MR. CHUCK’S DRIVER’S EDUCATION

This 30-hour Driver’s Education class (NAC 389.568) satisfies the requirement for a Nevada Driver’s License. After completing the 30-hour class, the student will receive a certificate of completion.

CARSON JR VICTORY ROLLERS

Indoor Roller Derby! Girls and boys ages 10-17 will learn the basics of flat-track roller derby in a 6 week off-skates program before joining the rest of the team on the track. New participants are not required to have any skates or gear for the first 6 weeks and skating experience is not required. Once on skates, participants will learn how to skate safely and be taught derby rules and skills. Skaters advance at their own speed to eventually land a spot on the Junior Derby team. GOLDEN LION TAI CHI C’HAUN & QI GONG

Tai Chi - the ancient Chinese martial art form known worldwide for health, relaxation, and longevity benefits. Capital Kids is a before and after school program that takes place every school day during the school year, plus camps held during winter, Thanksgiving and spring breaks. The Before School Program meets at the Carson City Community Center where school busses will take children to the appropriate school. The After School Program takes place at the various elementary schools in Carson City.

TEEN ART FUSION

HOSTED BY SIERRA ARTS FOUNDATION with various guest artists throughout the program. High school students with a passion for art, come explore different mediums, express yourself, discover your artistic potential, and bring your imagination to life. Second and Fourth Wednesdays of each month*, semi-structured open studio 12-2pm, specialized instruction 2-4pm. Drop-in fee of $10 includes open studio time and/or instruction. Kick-off celebration and info session, Wednesday, September 11 at 5:30pm, are free for all interested teens and their families.

SAGEBRUSH TO SANDSTONE: CYANOTYPE WORKSHOP WITH MEGAN BERNER

The cyanotype is an early photographic printing process that uses sunlight and water to create images. Cyanotype images are deep, cyan-blue, and were used in the original blueprint process. In this workshop led by visual artist Megan Berner, participants will create original photograms by arranging objects on sensitized paper. Using natural and found objects to make their prints, participants will learn how to prepare their own cyanotype paper and have an opportunity to experiment with the process. Participants are welcome to bring small objects that can be used to create images. Leaves, plants, lace, ribbon, anything with an interesting shape will work well. We will also provide supplies and some objects that participants can use.

This workshop will be conducted outside. Please plan accordingly and wear weather-appropriate clothing. All participants will receive a copy of Sagebrush to Sandstone: A Humanities Guide to Outdoor Nevada

Sagebrush to Sandstone is a series of creative gatherings and events that highlight the arts and humanities alongside Nevada nature, produced by Nevada Humanities, and supported with funding by the Charles Redd Center for Western Studies at Brigham Young University and the National Endowment for the Humanities.

SAGEBRUSH TO SANDSTONE: GREAT BASIN FIRE SCIENCE WALK

Join us for a walk to learn more about living with fire in the Great Basin. Participants will learn about human and plant adaptations to wildfire, strategies for identifying and navigating wildfires, and more. All participants will receive a copy of Sagebrush to Sandstone: A Humanities Guide to Outdoor Nevada.

Sweat Shop is a co-ed fitness program with personalized floor classes containing aerobics, Pilates, and yoga in one hour of enjoyable musical exercise. This class is taught with the senior in mind. Those grand golden years have come upon us. Retirement, golf on Saturdays and Sunday brunch with the kids. It’s just as important now as it was when we were younger, in fact more so! This class focuses on strengthening muscles used when walking and getting out of a chair; reduces fear of falling, and aids seniors in staying mobile.

If you need help in establishing good conduct and curbing bad habits, this is the course for you. Instructor Guy Yeaman’s 50 years of experience will help you teach your dog to obey all the basic obedience commands; heel, sit, stand, stay, and recall. Each dog needs a training collar (choke chain, Halti, gentle leader, etc.). Dogs must be at least 4 months old and current on their shots. Written shot records must be shown at the start of class. Join the Carson Ridge Disc Golf Course fun and exciting league competitions. Play the course and meet new people! Volunteers will be keeping track of your score during the course of the league. In December, have a chance to win prizes or awards based on your score ranking. These competitions are held monthly (weather permitting) and are open to all. For beginners and families try out the league events on the Pony Express course, and for intermediate or disc golf pros go for the Stadium course! This one-time registration of $20 will allow you to join in on this league all year long! A non-sequential and unique tag will be provided to each league type registered player.

Proceeds from the tournament go to the Mills Park Pickleball Court Project Fund at the Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation, a 501(c)(3) organization. “GLO-RDUNO” MEMORIAL GLOW IN THE DARK COED KICKBALL TOURNAMENT

The inaugural “GLO-RDUNO” coed adult kickball tournament is a glow in the dark, 3-game guarantee, kickball tournament. All teams are strongly encouraged to dress in neon or glow in the dark themed attire. Teams must have at least 5 males and 5 females on the field to participate but may have up to 16 players on their roster. Batting order must alternate male/female. Park Ranger-Led Programs

In 1996, Carson City residents voted for the Quality of Life Initiative which created the Open Space program. Carson City now has thousands of acres of Open Space and miles of trails. Come check out Carson’s beautiful Open Space properties on one of the many interpretive hikes. They’re free and great for all ages.

REGIONAL JR RANGER DAY

For the third year in a row, Carson City kids, as well as surrounding areas, can become the ultimate Jr Park Ranger by attending the Regional Jr Ranger Day! This year, the event will be hosted by Nevada State Parks at Washoe Lake State Park. Festivities began at 10:00am and will run until 2:00pm. The Carson City Park Rangers, as well as Washoe County Regional Parks will be joining in on the fun at Washoe Lake.

JR. RANGER ACTIVITY - ORIENTEERING

Junior Park Ranger Activities are generally held quarterly throughout the year for the purpose of completing sections within the Adventure Guide. This month, JR Rangers will work through pages 6 and 7 with a Park Ranger while exploring Carson River Park. Jr Rangers will be using their orienteering skills help navigate around the area to locate items.

CREATURES OF THE NIGHT (TENTATIVE)

Join a Carson City Park Ranger and Wildlife Oddities and Local Fauna (W.O.L.F) for an immersive adventure into the mysterious world of nocturnal animals. Discover the secrets of the creatures that come alive when the sun goes down and explore their fascinating adaptations for life under the cloak of darkness. W.O.L.F. will be bringing their collection of taxidermy animals to give you a closer look at these local critters!

The program will be held inside Fuji Hall and chairs will be provided. Whether you’re a seasoned naturalist or a part time explorer, “Creatures of the Night” offers something for everyone and is suitable for all ages and families.

BOB BOLDRICK 50TH ANNIVERSARY BLOCK PARTY

The Bob Boldrick Theater inside the Carson City Community Center is turning 50! Play games, create art, participate in fun classes hosted by various theater groups, go on a backstage tour, grab a treat from local food trucks, and share your favorite memories from the last 50 years at the theater - or make some new ones! A showcase performance at 2pm will highlight some of the amazing acts that have graced the celebrated stage.
