I was the kind of kid who liked to pull a Band-Aid off slowly. I would gently lift one corner and roll the sticky adhesive backwards, trying not to pull my skin. My method hurt just as much as ripping the Band-Aid off, and if anything it just prolonged the inevitable pain. Eventually I realized that pulling a Band-Aid off slowly is not the best way to do it. I was also the kind of kid

thought that letting students transition slowly and settle back in with their old familiar teacher and classmates was a good idea, but instead it often causes more anxiety for a lot of students. It’s a bit of a dilemma because if students get their classroom assignments on the first day, some will definitely be upset when they are told later that they have to be shuffled. On the other hand, if they don’t get their classroom assignments until the end of the week, some students are going to go into a panic from the anticipation because they don’t know what to expect. Ironically, it’s the kids who don’t like change that much who seemed to have the most difficulty with the slow and delayed transition into their new classroom. Even some kids that love school do not want to go the first week while everything is uncertain and up in the air.
