Intersection safety Submitted In association with the Alberta Transportation Safety Calendar Camrose Police Service reminds all road users the importance of Intersection Safety. Intersections are considered to be one of the most dangerous parts of roadways, and even more so during hazardous road conditions. The following information is provided to assist citizens with reducing the risk of a collision or incident at intersections. Motorists • Never speed up on a yellow light. • Always leave enough room between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead of yours. • Remember the “rightof-way” rule. You must yield to the vehicle on your right. • Always be prepared for the unexpected, including pedestrians moving into the intersection, slippery road conditions and drive defensively with regards to other motorists. Pedestrians • Always cross at crosswalks or pedestrianactivated signals where available. Do not jaywalk, cross at corners. • Stop before crossing a roadway. Check for traffic in all directions and do not proceed unless it is safe. • Do not be distracted by devices or conversation with others and where possible make eye contact with drivers to ensure they have seen you.
