Honorary W h i t e H a t A w a r d s 2 0 1 0 Did you know that in 1947, Bill Herron, a local oilman, and his family wore white hats to the Calgary Stampede Parade? His family won “best dressed” that year and the demand for white hats exploded.
Calgary Co-op is proud to announce our winners and nominees! Congratulations to Carmela Russo from our North Hill Centre for winning the Mayor’s White Hat Award – an achievement over and above all categories.
Don Mackay, who was then the mayor of Calgary and a fan of cowboy hats himself, decided to present the white hats as gifts to visiting dignitaries. Sixty years later, Smithbilt Hats continues to make the famous white hats that are used each year at the Honorary White Hat Awards to recognize individuals and organizations that have shown a long-term commitment to the hospitality and tourism industry, and have strengthened Calgary’s reputation as a worldclass city.
Congratulations to Kirstie Davies from our Beddington Centre for winning the White Hat Award for Retail Service Excellence.
