Getting Started (steps of Whole Herd TPR) Step 1 • •

Contact the records department to enroll your herd in the Whole Herd TPR system. Determine a calving season. Calving Season – Choose which calving season best fits your operation. Traditional spring – January 1 through June 30 Traditional fall – July 1 through December 31 Non-traditional season – Breeder chooses the start and end dates. Example: Spring – December 15 through March 1 or April 20 through July 10. Fall: November 5 through February 1, etc. Year round – Breeders without distinct seasons are encouraged to work from a “fall” inventory timeline.

Complete herd inventory. The records department will generate an inventory form for traditional paper registry members or an inventory update to-do list task for members using MyHerd. o Review each animal on the list and assign a herd ID to each animal maintained on the inventory. o Report disposal information for animals no longer active in the herd. o Multiply owned animals should be kept on inventory if you intend to register calves from them. o Donor dams should also be kept on inventory even if they’re not in your possession. o Report the inventory status next season for all the females you’re expecting to calve in the next calving season. o Report the inventory status non-exposed for any young females you wish to keep in your inventory that haven’t been exposed to breeding conditions. o Add additional animals at the end. Provide a registration number and Herd ID for each new animal.  Traditional paper registry members can check a box located at the top of the inventory form to receive registration applications with pre-printed dam information.

Note: A dam must be listed on the most current herd inventory in order to process its offspring’s registration and weaning performance data through Whole Herd TPR. Suggestion: Families with multiple accounts (children, partners, etc.) If your herd is comprised of animals of multiple membership accounts (family members, children, partners, etc.) it’s best to link all associated accounts to one master account because it makes it easier to submit registration and performance data as one herd. Ownership of the animals within each account will not be changed and there’s no additional charge. Complete the relationship development form (page 25) to designate a master account. The master account will receive all future herd inventories and general correspondence from the AHA regarding the herd.
