“GREAT PEOPLE... BLOODY GOOD, FUNCTIONAL HEREFORD CATTLE” -Tenaru Poll Herefords

We think of two things when we hear the words Phantom Creek Livestock: Firstly, great people and secondly, bloody good, functional Hereford cattle.

My wife Teeny and I were in Canada for the World Hereford Conference in 2012. We attended a post-conference tour in Saskatchewan where we found PCL Zircon on his dam. We felt at first sight that we could build another female line around this calf. So, we approached Doug, who we barely knew, and on a handshake, Doug agreed to give us 24 hours (before he would talk to anyone else about Zircon) to get to PCL and view the whole operation.

Needless to say, Teeny and I were at PCL the next morning and spent most of the day with Doug and Wanda looking at their operation and, in particular, the females behind the calf that was of interest to us. At the end of the day, we asked them what would be required for us to secure PCL Zircon for Australia. Doug told us, and on the second handshake, the deal was done. No bank cheque, no middlemen, just two handshakes!!!!

We all know that this genetic stud game is a lifetime in the making. PCL Zircon has lived up to and exceeded all our expectations. His females here at Tenaru are as good as we have. His influence can also be seen in a couple of the oldest whiteface studs in Australia, Merawah and Mawarra.

Ten years on from seeing PCL Zircon, his influence is still at the forefront of our program. At the 2022 Merawah/Tenaru Bull Sale he sired the $30,000 Tenaru top seller. Tenaru also offered three bulls out of Zircon daughters. They sold for $26,000, $12,000 and $10,000 respectively. What a great addition PCL Zircon has been to our operation!!!!

Teeny and I would like to take this opportunity to wish Doug and Wanda all the best for their upcoming sale and the next chapter in their lives. Thanks again for all you have done for the Hereford breed and sharing part of PCL with us through Zircon!!!!
