Wood Crushes Yard Worker

A 56-year-old worker at Front Range Reload, Denver, Co., was killed when he was buried beneath a stack of lumber that toppled from a forklift.

The unidentified man was helping load a semi-trailer Dec. 19 next to a forklift operator, who had lifted a bundle of 2x4s from the top of a 20-ft.high stack of lumber. As the boards were loaded on the trailer, they tumbled off.

To reach the victim, 17 firefighters spent nearly 10 minutes removing the boards by hand. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
