TOP 5 REASONS TO TRANSFER TO BU. 1. A LARGE TRANSFER COMMUNITY

As a university of just over 18,000 undergraduates, we welcome 950+ transfer students each year. Add in that BU has a surprisingly small student-to-faculty ratio—10:1 to be exact—and you’ll have countless ways to connect and thrive here.

2. RIGOROUS & FLEXIBLE ACADEMICS

With 300+ programs of study and great academic flexibility to transfer credits, we make it easy to maximize the value of your BU degree. You can even explore combined BA/MA programs and opportunities to take coursework across BU’s undergraduate schools and colleges.

3. RESIDENTIAL CITY LIVING

From historic brownstones to modern high-rises and halls with dedicated language floors, Boston University offers exactly the learning environment you need, all conveniently close to campus amenities, transportation, and wider Boston destinations.

4. RESEARCH AT THE CUTTING EDGE

Research is the cornerstone of BU. As soon as you arrive on campus, you’ll have the rare opportunity to participate in world-class research. BU is part of the Association of American Universities (AAU)—a prestigious association of top research universities in the United States and Canada.

5. ACCELERATED CAREER EXPERIENCE

Because we’re right in Boston, you have numerous internship and learning opportunities to consider in any field you want. But why stop there? You can also take your interests across the country and around the world—think Los Angeles, D.C., London, Sydney, and more.

WHO CAN TRANSFER TO BU?

If you are a high school graduate or passed a high school equivalency exam and have completed 12 or more credits as a degree-seeking candidate at another institution of higher education, you are eligible to be a transfer student. For more information, visit bu.edu/transfer.

WILL I RECEIVE CREDIT FOR MY PREVIOUS COURSEWORK?

Yes! The basic unit of credit at BU is the semester hour. A full-time course load is 16 hours per semester, or four courses. BU accepts up to 68 credit hours from either two-year or four-year institutions. To see how classes taken at other colleges or universities may transfer, use our transfer equivalency tool at go.bu.edu/ admissions/transfer-equivalency. Because you have already completed significant college coursework, the BU Hub—Boston University’s innovative general education program—offers a specially tailored Transfer Student Curriculum to build on the work you’ve completed and develop the capacities required of all BU graduates. Learn more about Hub requirements at bu.edu/hub/transfer-requirements. The fine print: Students who have completed liberal arts courses at an accredited institution with a grade of C or better are often awarded transfer credit toward graduation. Transfer credit is awarded at the discretion of the BU school or college to which you are admitted. For coursework completed in the US, a credit evaluation will be posted online after an admissions decision is released. For coursework completed outside the US, a credit evaluation will be posted online after your enrollment deposit is submitted.

Faculty also offer office hours, where you can discuss class material, research, and internship opportunities.
